Trump News – Latest: Confusion as ex-president appears to be endorsing multiple ‘Erics’ in Missouri

ICYMI: The shadow of the 2020 election continues to loom over the 2022 midterm cycle, and November could prove to be a key referendum on whether the conspiracy theories that emerged in 2020 have an impact on the general public.

Pro-conspiracy candidates are openly running for office in several states, including states like Michigan and Nevada, to name a few.

Associated Press delves into the spread of election conspiracies through the 2022 Republican Party bench and whether that will turn off voters in November.

Donald Trump’s eldest son retweeted former Mussoorie Gov. Eric Greitens’ tweet thanking the former president for his endorsement amid the ongoing confusion.

Mr. Trump announced his support for “Eric” for a seat in the U.S. Senate to replace retiring Senator Roy Blunt.

There are two GOP front-runners named Eric in this race — former Gov. Eric Greitens and state Attorney General Eric Schmidt. Both seem to suggest they are endorsed by Mr Trump.

There is also a third GOP candidate named Eric McElroy. Mr Greitens tweeted on Monday: “Just had a great phone call with President Trump, thank you for your support! Together we will MAGA and save America!”

In a follow-up tweet, he added: “Honored to receive President Trump’s endorsement. From the beginning, I was the true champion of MAGA, fighting against the support of the RINO establishment [Eric] Schmidt.

“President Trump said it best when he characterized Schmidt’s campaign as ‘great dishonesty in politics.’

Four of his tweets addressing the endorsement controversy were retweeted by Donald Trump Jr. on Monday.

ICYMI: The House Select Committee investigating Jan. 6 moved last week to provide transcripts of witness interviews to the Justice Department, again raising the prospect of what that would mean and whether it would encourage the DOJ to take public action with faster paces.

Although the commission does not have the power to indict anyone on criminal charges, the evidence it has uncovered so far could be used or collected separately by Justice Department investigators.

So what would happen if the commission took the unprecedented step of recommending charges against a former president?

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi arrived in Malaysia on Tuesday for the second leg of an Asian tour that was marred by an expected stop in Taiwan that would have escalated tensions with Beijing.

The plane carrying Ms Pelosi and her delegation landed at an air base amid heightened security, national news agency Bernama reported.

Although there were no official announcements, local media in Taiwan reported that Ms. Pelosi would arrive in Taipei on Tuesday night, becoming the highest-ranking US elected official to visit in more than 25 years.

ICYMI: MSNBC anchors Good morning, Joe unloaded on Donald Trump on Monday as the former president continued to blast WNBA star Brittney Greener and the Biden administration’s alleged plans to secure her release from a Russian prison.

Former congressman Joe Scarborough said the criticism was further evidence of what a “terrible” person Donald Trump is at heart.

“It shows once again what a horrible person this is, what a disgusting human being. How cruel it is. And you can’t help but wonder if he’s saying that because she’s a black basketball player,” he said.

Tim Michels, who was endorsed by Donald Trump for governor, said he would not commit to endorsing the former president for the 2024 race.

Mr. Michels, the millionaire co-owner of Brownsville-based construction company Michels Corp., along with his two biggest opponents in the Republican primary for governor, distanced themselves from Mr. Trump during a candidate forum at a Milwaukee town hall.

“I will look at all the evidence and everything will be on the table and I will make the right decision,” Mr Michels said when asked if he would sign legislation aimed at overturning the election results.

On the night before Missouri’s closely watched Republican primary for the U.S. Senate seat to replace retiring Sen. Roy Blunt, Donald Trump announced his endorsement: “Eric.”

There are two GOP front-runners named Eric in this race — former Gov. Eric Greitens and state Attorney General Eric Schmidt.

There is a third GOP candidate named Eric on the Republican primary ballot: Eric McElroy, a comedian inadvertently name-dropped among the Erics in the former president’s announcement.

“I trust that the great people of Missouri will make up their own minds on this matter, just as they did when they gave me landslide victories in the 2016 and 2020 elections, and so I am proud to announce that ERIC has my Full and Full endorsement !” the former president announced on August 1.

ICYMI: Sen. Tim Scott is working to dispel rumors of presidential ambitions after astute reviewers noticed that a page in his memoir appeared to reveal his intentions.

On the copyright page of the South Carolina Republican senator’s memoir, a brief description reads: “Senator Scott is a rising star who sees and understands the importance of bipartisanship in moving America forward. This book is a political memoir that includes his key messages as he prepares to run for president in 2022.

If that were the case, and Mr. Scott plans to launch a presidential campaign later this year, he could come face-to-face with Donald Trump, who remains publicly keen on running for the White House again.

Donald Trump was seen attending Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson and Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Green at the Saudi Arabia-funded LIV golf tournament the former president held at his Bedminster resort in New Jersey this weekend.

A video shared on Twitter by conservative political consultant Alex Brusewitz captured the crowd at the tournament chanting, “Let’s go Brandon.”

The mocking slogan “come on Brandon” is being used by conservatives to attack President Joe Biden.

ICYMI: Michigan’s top elections official is warning campaigns and candidates not to try any pranks as the contentious primary season ends with Tuesday’s election.

Jocelyn Benson, Michigan’s secretary of state, made the declaration in an interview with The news from Detroit in which she reiterated comments she had made on social media over the past few days.

“Any attempts to block the certification of our election, regardless of the results, will be futile,” she told the news outlet.

John Bowden writes that her remarks would seem troubling if it weren’t for the fact that five Republican candidates who previously ran in the gubernatorial primary were kicked off the ballot Tuesday.
