Celebrities from all walks of life have had a long history of participating in the wrestling business. From the likes of Mohammad Ali all the way to most recent signing Logan Paul, it’s easy to see which superstars absolutely love the businesses and which ones are making an appearance for a paycheck.
But even the ones who love the business don’t always transfer into great in-ring performances. They just simply aren’t athletes or can’t translate their on-screen charisma to the live crowd. For every Bad Bunny, Logan Paul, or Stephen Amell, there’s a celebrity or two that should have never stepped into the ring.
10 Seth Green
Lifelong fan Seth Green had been in and around Hollywood just as long as he’d been watching WWE. He got the dream of a lifetime when he was part of Raw during the Guest Host Era. He also ran his mouth a little too much and found himself in the crosshairs of The Viper and the rest of Legacy.
John Cena and Triple H would come to the star’s aid, setting up the evening’s main event. Unfortunately Seth Green in the ring looked a lot like a proto-Marko Stunt, and that’s not a compliment.
9 David Arquette
No, he certainly didn’t belong in the ring with the likes of Jeff Jarrett or Diamond Dallas Page. David Arquette definitely doesn’t belong in the history of WCW titleholders. But it all happened. Fans point to the moment as one of the many reasons that the company went under.
Arquette might not believe that, but has also worked hard to build himself a better reputation in the business, as seen in the documentary “You Can’t Kill David Arquette.”
8 Jay Leno
Say what you will about the other members on this list, but at least they had some athletic ability or were young and spry. Then there’s Jay Leno. In 1998, there was no bigger late night talk show then The Tonight Show. There was also nothing bigger than the nWo.
Why not combine the two, right? Eric Bischoff was able to commandeer the set of the Tonight Show. In retaliation, he challenged Bischoff and Hogan to a match at Road Wild. But even with DDP as his tag team partner, the match was nothing but a farce.
7 Shaquille O’Neil
For several years, the two largest athletes in the world, The Big Show and Shaq circled each other like bulls waiting for just right moment to get it on. The firs time Shaq got involved in a match was the ARMBAR at WrestleMania 32.
A little under five years later, the big man would have his first proper match, teaming up with Jade Cargill in her first ever match – against Cody and Red Velvet. Shaq held his own, but wrestling should not be something he does ever again.
6 Cain Velazquez
Throughout his UFC career, the bane of Brock Lesnar’s existence was Cain Velasquez. The former fighter is the reason The Beast has a scar underneath his right eye. He defeated Lesnar for the UFC heavyweight championship, handing Lesnar his second loss in the process.
But when Velasquez entered the WWE, he wasn’t nearly as natural a performer as Lesnar was. His first and only match in WWE, against Lesnar was a debacle and Velasquez was released several months later.
5 Mr. T
Mr. T headlined the very first WrestleMania and was a big part of the second in a boxing match against Roddy Piper. But back then, when the business was more protected, it was hard to put in some ring time to get ready for the match.
Considering what was riding on the first ever WrestleMania, most of the time, Piper or Orton did all they could to limit what Mr. T could do in the ring, which made for a subpar main event.
4 Kevin Federline
Somewhere in between the Dr. Of Thugonomics John Cena and the Cena Suck John Cena, ol’ Mr. Britney Spears himself, Kevin Federline appeared on Raw. Someone clearly got it in their head that if they book K-Fed, maybe Britney will make an appearance.
Not only did they never happen but Federline actually beat John Cena live on Monday Night Raw, albeit with some help from John Morrison.
3 Colin Jost And Michael Che
About a month before WrestleMania 35, two of Saturday Night Live’s top writers, Colin Jost and Michael Che appeared on Raw. Both idiots ticked off The Monster Among Men, Braun Strowman.
For some reason that meant getting involved in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal, which if you didn’t already think was a joke – having two comedians involved sealed the deal. They stayed under the ring most of the time, until trying to eliminate Strowman, who effortlessly heaved them over the top.
2 Snooki
Back in 2011, The Jersey Shore’s adventures in debauchery had captivated a certain section of the audience. Snooki, one of the easiest known names from the show had come to WWE and Vickie Guerrero, her client Dolph Ziggler, and LayCool took exception to that, which led to a match against John Morrison, Snooki, and Trish Stratus coming out of retirement for this nonsense.
Snooki worked hard to fit in, but the match unfortunately flattened an already pretty flat crowd.
1 Jenna Morasca
In another segment of TNA trying to copy WWE, they too tried to bring in a celebrity. Z-List reality star Jenna Morasca from Survivor was revealed as the benefactor for the Main Event Mafia.
She was also being trained by Awesome Kong for a match with Queen Sharmell at Victory Road – the match was immediately voted the worst match on a card that was the worst event of the year.
