David De Gea has opened up about life under new Manchester United boss Eric Ten Hag and the new culture that has already built around the club.

Speaking of The Manchester Evening NewsDe Gea has been very open about how Erik Ten Hag has increased his training load.

“We’re really improving, the new manager, things are going really well, we’re working really hard as a team,” the goalkeeper said.

“He is very intense, everything he says is fully focused, 100%, just in training, he brings new things, new thoughts, so we have to adapt to him.”

United seemed to lack an identity and footballing culture under previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, something David De Gea touched on during the interview.

Asked if he agreed with Bruno Fernandes’ assessment that United’s squad needed more discipline, he replied: “I agree, we needed more culture, a better culture of football, just thinking about football, nothing else .”

The Spanish marksman has been added to a list of United players who have highlighted the need for a change from last season’s poor performance.

“I think a lot of things have to change,” De Gea said, “I think we were really poor last season, we played really badly to be honest, but we’re really improving under the new manager.”

“Things are going very well, we are working very hard as a team, that’s the most important thing. Let’s see. Go day by day, try to work as hard as you can and improve.

David De Gea signed for United in 2011 and is approaching his 500th game for the club, a great achievement for the 31-year-old who can also break the appearances record for a United goalkeeper this season if he makes more than 43 appearances.

This interview certainly shows the change that new manager Ten Hag has brought to United, with improved tactical skill, more discipline in the squad and an increased focus on the footballing aspects.

United fans will be hoping that these changes lead to a better upcoming season than last.
