Transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio has provided an update on Cristiano Ronaldo’s future.
In an interview with Wett Freunde, Di Marzio explains where he believes the future of the in-demand striker lies.
If CR7 were to leave United, Di Marzio believes Chelsea are the most likely destination at the moment.
Chelsea could be the right, but also the only, club for Cristiano Ronaldo. he claims.
With Ronaldo’s desire to play in the Champions League a key factor in his desire to leave, his new club will have to compete in the competition next season.
Di Marzio described a return to Italy as “impossible”, leaving options limited.
Knowing PSG have their star-studded front three set in stone, Barcelona out of the question due to his illustrious past at Real Madrid and Bayern Munich distancing themselves from the signing, Chelsea have emerged as favorites for Ronaldo.
Di Marzio has also pointed to MLS as a possible destination for Ronaldo, although that would kill the Champions League dream, making it a very unlikely possibility at the moment.
United are believed to be willing to listen to offers for the club legend, but would naturally prefer his next move not to a Premier League rival.
Ronaldo was not part of the 31-strong traveling squad for United’s pre-season tour, which starts in three days against Liverpool.
The club cited personal issues as the reason for Ronaldo’s absence, with the Portuguese star continuing to train in his homeland.
United’s new manager Erik ten Hag will want the situation resolved as soon as possible. If Ronaldo leaves the club this summer, there will need to be a suitable replacement.
Ronaldo was the club’s leading goalscorer last season and is the only recognized centre-forward left in the first-team squad.
