In our top story. Ayushmann Khuarrana and Ananya Panday’s Dream Girl 2, directed by Raaj Shaandaliyaa, entered the Rs 50 crore club within days of its release. The film debuted on the big screen on August 25 and turned out to be the biggest opening film for Ayushmann. Sharing the box office figures, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on Twitter, “50 Not Out… Dream Girl 2 hits half-century.” Regarding the film and its phenomenal box office run, Ayushmann recently said, “I’m thrilled with Dream Girl 2’s start at the box office as it has given me my career-best opening! It’s truly heartwarming to witness audiences returning to theatres, sharing laughter, and experiencing my film.”
Moving on. Shah Rukh Khan commenced promotions for his upcoming actioner Jawan with an extravagant pre-release event held at Chennai’s Sri Sairam Engineering College on 30th August. During this event, his co-star Vijay Sethupathi who portrays the antagonist in Jawan, humorously shared – “When I was in school, I was in love with a girl. But that girl was in love with SRK. It’s taken these many years to have my revenge.” SRK responded to Vijay with his trademark wit and said – “Everyone here spoke in Tamil and I am sure they all spoke good things about me. Except for Vijay, who was talking about a girl. You can have your revenge but not my girls. They are mine.”
On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee paid a visit to Jalsa, the Mumbai residence of Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan. Amitabh shares a close bond with Mamata Banerjee. The official Twitter account of her party, the All India Trinamool Congress, shared photos capturing her meeting with Big B and his family members, including Jaya Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Shweta Nanda, and Navya Naveli Nanda. After her visit, Mamata Banerjee expressed her happiness and told ANI – “I am happy today. I met the Bharat Ratan of India, Amitabh Bachchan and also tied him rakhi. I love this family. I also invited him to attend Durga Puja and International Film Festival.”
Meanwhile, the Pataudi family gathered to celebrate Raksha Bandhan on Wednesday, 30th August. Kareena Kapoor Khan shared endearing family photos capturing the moment as Sara Ali Khan and Inaaya Kemmu tied ‘rakhis’ to Ibrahim, Taimur and Jeh Ali Khan. Kareena shared the pictures on Instagram and captioned the post – “Family Ties” along with a heart emoji. The first picture shows the three brothers – Ibrahim, Taimur, and Jeh – looking charming in black and white kurta pyjamas as they pose together. In another snapshot, the entire Khan family is seen posing together. Saif Ali Khan’s sister and actor, Soha Ali Khan, also shared a family portrait with a touch of humour, captioning it, “Hum nau saath hain.”
Actor Vicky Kaushal, who kicked off 2023 with the hit film Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, on Wednesday, 30th August said that this phase in his career, where his movies are performing well at the box office, makes him feel grateful. Vicky was speaking at the audio launch of the song Kanhaiya Twitter Pe Aaja from his upcoming film The Great Indian Family in Mumbai. The actor shared – “I’m thankful from the bottom of my heart for what happened with Zara Hatke Zara Bachke. The credit goes to you people for showering love on the film. It came at a time when some experts were saying such films will not work, and that this movie is meant for OTT.”
Meanwhile, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, known for his candid opinions, has been busy with the promotions of his upcoming film Haddi, in which he plays a lead role, alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui. During a recent interview, the filmmaker shared his two cents on the ‘A – Adults only’ certification given to the film OMG 2 by the Central Board of Film Certification. When questioned about this, Kashyap told India Today – “That is their problem. The true intention of a film will reach the audience one way or the other. You cannot stop people from feeling offended. They are so weak that they get offended by anything.” Anurag is no stranger to clashes with the Board right from his directorial debut Paanch.
Actor Sunny Deol recently revealed he was dyslexic as a child. In an interview with Ranveer Allahbadia, Sunny shared – “I was dyslexic as a child. Back then, we didn’t even know what that meant. I would get slapped for not being able to study. Even now when it comes to reading, sometimes the words seem all jumbled up. My being dyslexic never came up in conversation over the years. But it used to get difficult. Initially, I would feel nervous to speak. Now, with age, I feel I have opened up more.” Sunny Deol is currently seen in Gadar 2. The Anil Sharma directorial has emerged as one of the biggest hits of all time.
Lastly, Gadar 2 director Anil Sharma opened up about his volatile relationship with actor Ameesha Patel, who played the role of Sakeena in the blockbuster film. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Anil shared – “I’ve had my disagreements with Ameesha, but that’s her nature. We had a disagreement when we first met for the first film. But she comes from a big family, and she carries that attitude around with her. I’m a simple person, I believe in living with love. She does, too, but sometimes her attitude gets in the way.” Before the release of Gadar 2, Ameesha stirred controversy when she claimed that she wasn’t paid in full for her work in the film.
