Kylie Minogue was quick to post her praise for the Aussie team on an Instagram story following what she described as a “sensational” win.

Paralympic gold medalist and 2022 Australian of the Year Dylan Alcott watched the game from the MCG where Carlton played against Melbourne on Saturday night.

“That was the closest I’ve ever been to standing up,” Mr Alcott joked.

Hugh Jackman was also sharing the Matildas’ love on social media, posting a series of pictures to his Instagram story that revealed that, just like the rest of Australia, he was on the edge of his seat before celebrating the historic win.

Rebel Wilson, too, was thrilled.

WA Tourism Minister Rita Safiotti said she is getting behind the Matildas to take out the World Cup.

“I am backing the Matilda’s to win the World Cup, which would make Perth the first place anywhere the world to host the newly crowned world champions,” Ms Safiotti said.

“For Perth to be the first city to host the newly crowned world champions after the world cup would be an incredible occasion, especially for Western Australians who want to catch a glimpse of hometown hero Sam Kerr.”

French Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron will need to support the Matildas for the rest of the World Cup to make true on a bet with Anthony Albanese.
