New social media platform Threads launched today (July 6), with celebrities from the world of screen, stage, music and more signing up to the new Meta app.
Thor actor Chris Hemsworth, FUBAR’s Arnold Schwarzenegger, singer and actress Jennifer Lopez and broadcaster Oprah Winfrey are a few big names with active accounts on Threads.
Selling Sunset’s Chrishell Strause was one reality star who signed up for the app early, with Strictly Come Dancing’s Fleur East and Love Island winner Millie Court following in her footsteps.

What is Threads?
Mark Zuckerberg, chief executive of Meta – which also owns Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook – said Threads is a “friendly” rival to Twitter, which was bought by entrepreneur Elon Musk in October last year.
The text-based conversation app allows users to write, publish, repost or quote messages that are shared to a real-time timeline for other users to see.
Videos, images and links can also be posted on Threads. Posts are restricted to 500 characters, which is more than Twitter’s 280-character limit.
Like Twitter, you are able to delete posts, but you are currently unable to edit posts on Threads. Features like direct messaging, hashtags and trending stories are also not available via Threads.
