72 Hoorain, directed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan and co-produced by Ashoke Pandit, has a similar fate as The Kerala Story. Critics have raised questions about the film’s religious aims and depiction of terrorism. Ahead of its theatrical release, the film’s co-producer Ashoke Pandit revealed that contrary to naysayers’ claims, 72 Hoorain is an anti-terrorism film. He added how a certain section of people blame a film in the name of religion when it doesn’t follow a specific “narrative”.
Ashok Pandit on the 72 Hurain dispute
In an interaction with India Today, Ashoke Pandit highlighted how deviating from an already established narrative spells trouble for the film. He said: “For the last so many years, we have heard that a narrative has been created by the so-called intellectuals, secularists, opinion makers in the country, where anything, when you speak differently, anything that is not according to their narrative, they will direct such films to religion. They channel all the seriousness of the film into religion so that everything sounds frivolous.”
Ashoke Pandit claims that 72 Hoorain is fighting terrorism
Talking about their main motto for making a film like 72 Hoorain, Ashoke Pandit revealed that it was to fight terrorism. The producer said that the film team, including director and actor Pawan Malhotra, wanted to portray the ill effects of terrorism in the film. But their thoughts were misinterpreted.
Ashoke Pandit calls terrorism a disease
“They say that terrorism is a cancer for the whole world, mankind and mankind. So Sanjay along with his team of creative people exposed terrorism and the effect of terrorism in the way the youth have been misled and lied that if you blast, kill people, create chaos or carnage, you will find Jannat ad Hoorain (angels) there. When we say we are making a film against terrorism, we are fighting against terrorism, then how then does religion stand between them?” Ashoke Pandit wanted to know.
72 Hurayn plot
72 Hoorain revolves around how terrorist organizations brainwash youngsters to turn them into terrorists by promising them a heavenly kingdom with 72 virgins known as Hoorain. 72 Hoorain is slated to hit the screens on July 7.
