Sir Raman and Abhinandan, you asked if any country is capitalist/socialist? Well, socialism and capitalism are not just labels that can be applied to countries and then defended or ridiculed. They are political frameworks. A policy is only as capitalist as it fits within that framework, and laws are only as capitalist as those policies reflect it. A country is only as capitalist as it applies these laws, and a society as much as it abides by them. India is much more capitalist than Venezuela (which does News washing possible) and Indian laws are much more socialistic than Indian society (which raids on News washing possible)…Capitalism doesn’t assume that people are rational and just, it just makes them take responsibility for not being so…
I believe the story of Goldspot being thrown down the drain by Coke employees is apocryphal because if that was true, then the competition with Coke was actually profitable for Ramesh Chauhan’s business. Every time a Coke employee bought a throwaway bottle, Mr. Chauhan earned a penny. The real story is most likely that $40 million in 1993 was much more comforting than running a business in a fiercely competitive environment; similarly, the Italian entrepreneur Signor Felice Bisleri found 4 lakh rupees more comforting and sold Bisleri to Chauhan. None of this is unfair! Other examples you mentioned would need more letters.

I recently watched The Elephant Whisperer and Everything that breathes. Beautifully shot documentaries that have received Academy Award nominations.
It will be amazing if you can interview Kartiki Gonzalves (Director of The Elephant Whisperer), as it is closely related to Sadguru’s ground report of the Isha Empire that NL did in 2021.
Plus, an interview with the brothers behind Saving the Wildlife Mohammad Saud and Shehzad Nadeem (Everything that breathes) will be an inspiration to most city dwellers who often treat wild animals on the streets as pests. Generalized statement based on personal experience rather than facts, but assuming most would agree with this.

Some questions to ponder:
I completely agree with you that both the Hindenburg and BBC the documentary did not provide any new information. Which then means that their way of presenting the facts was more impactful? Would you agree? Or was there cherry picking?
Personally, your economist for Adani looked like an Adani destroyer. Stop before you hit me 😊. Adani is not the largest company in India, so it does not “own India” – as was done in this case. They were huge by market cap – the third largest before the crash. But in terms of revenue, they were really nowhere. Compare this to Reliance and you will see the difference. And in every sector they’re in, they’re not the biggest company either.
It’s strange that no one talks about these aspects! Am I wrong as a media organization to expect NL to talk more about the connection of this money to election bonds?

A small correction from last week’s Hafta: while answering a fan’s mail, Abhinandan mentioned that the origin of the term “banana republic” comes from America’s free trade agreement with South America, but it’s actually Central American countries like Honduras and Guatemala .

What are the panel’s views on the recent incident in a Bengaluru university where students participated in a skit that insulted SC/ST groups? A DPI was also instituted against the students. I don’t think their skit was in good taste. But I think FoE will at least allow those views to be expressed.
Also, can we have an LTA on freedom of expression that includes history and comparison between different countries today. I know Abhinandan loves this thread.
