“Let’s begin with our top story. Shah Rukh Khan’s comeback film Pathaan is breaking box office records not only in India but also worldwide.
The film delivered the biggest opening day ever for a Hindi film in India, with around Rs 53 crore (Rs 55 crore including the Tamil and Telugu language releases). The film’s day one gross is Rs 67 crore. The three national cinema chains — PVR, Inox and Cinepolis — have contributed towards nearly 50% of the film’s opening day figures, accounting for Rs 27 crore. The film delivered an even bigger day two, on account of the Republic Day holiday, which means that it passed the coveted Rs 100 crore mark in just two days. “
Meanwhile, Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor, who was recently seen in the film Kuttey, has opened up about his favourite movies, and his love for Shah Rukh Khan. The actor called SRK the most ‘cinematic’ actor of the generation. In a recent interview, Arjun said, “I am a huge Shah Rukh Khan fan and I love watching his films in theatres. He brings that big-screen experience with every scene, and every shot he does.” Arjun took to his Instagram handle on Thursday, 26th January and said that Shah Rukh’s Pathaan was not just a film, it’s an emotion. He added, “Congratulations to the entire team for making a film that will be watched over and over again.”
“Suniel Shetty’s daughter and actor Athiya Shetty tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend and cricketer KL Rahul on Monday, 23rd January. The couple got married in Suniel’s Khandala farmhouse. However, a few days after their wedding, reports of gifts received by the couple during the ceremony surfaced on the internet. Now, the Hera Pheri actor has refuted all the reports as “baseless”.
As per reports, the newlyweds were gifted an apartment, luxury cars and jewellery. Suniel’s spokesperson denied all the rumours when asked about it. He said, “All the reports published about the gifts are baseless and not true. We request the press fraternity to confirm details with us before publishing such incorrect information in the public domain.””
Moving on. The Padma Awards were announced on Wednesday, 25th January and Bollywood actor Raveena Tandon and RRR’s music composer MM Keeravaan was conferred with the Padma Shri. Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain and three-time National Award-winning playback singer Vani Jairam were honoured with the Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan, respectively. Hussain had earlier been awarded the Padma Shri in 1998 and the Padma Bhushan in 2002. Reacting to the Padma Shri honour, Raveena said, “I am honoured and grateful. Thank you so much, Government of India, for acknowledging my contributions, my life, my passion and my purpose that allowed me to contribute not only to the film industry but also beyond. I owe this to my father Ravi Tandon.”
“Actor Rani Mukerji‘s new film Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway will release in theatres on March 17, the makers said Thursday, 26th January.
The movie which is directed by Ashima Chibber was earlier set to be released on March 3. The studio also shared a still of Mukerji from the upcoming film. Billed as an untold story about the journey of a mother’s battle against an entire country, the movie is based on a true incident that rocked children and human rights at an international level. Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway is produced by Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani and Nikkhil Advani of Emmay Entertainment and Zee Studios.”
Meanwhile, actor Sanjay Dutt announced a new film with Arshad Warsi, saying that their wait ‘has been longer’ than the fans. He shared the first look of the film, where he and Arshad are seen behind bars. As the duo have previously delivered hits with the Munna Bhai franchise, fans thought that this was the much-awaited third instalment in the series. Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi played the role of affable gangsters Munnabhai and Circuit in the popular film series, directed by Rajkumar Hirani. Presented by Three Dimension Productions, the new film is yet to be titled. It will be directed by Sidhaant Sachdev.
Actor-director Riteish Deshmukh spoke about the unexpected box office success of his debut film as director, Ved. He expressed gratitude to families for showing up in droves to watch the film in theatres, and to Salman Khan for appearing in a song and adding to the film’s production value. The Marathi language film has made more than Rs 55 crore at the box office so far. In a recent interview, Riteish also recalled the many setbacks that he and his wife, co-star Genelia Deshmukh, faced while putting the film together. He revealed that when no studio agreed to partner with them on the project, they were forced to release it on their own, with Genelia helping with designing the promotional strategy.
Lastly, Sunny Deol is returning as Tara Singh after 22 years and on Republic Day, the actor shared the new poster of his film Gadar 2. The poster has Sunny walking against a background of soldiers and violence with a large hammer. Bobby Deol and Esha Deol also shared the poster on their social media handles. Ameesha Patel returns as Sakeena in this sequel. Anil Sharma, who directed the first part, is directing the sequel too. Gadar 2 will release in cinemas on 11th August 2023, ahead of Independence Day.
