Stone Cold Steve Austin is arguably the greatest WWE superstar of all time, while the stunner is certainly the most iconic finisher in wrestling history.
The move became synonymous with the hellraising and beer-swivelling Texas Rattlesnake as he shot into the stratosphere during the Attitude Era, with it being hit on each and every single member of the WWE male roster in this tine.
The first and really any stunner on Vince McMahon was memorable, while The Rock made a point of overselling the move spectacularly. However, Triple H may be the holder of the greatest and most hilarious sell of the stunner, for his performance in 1999.
It was a classic post-Raw go home moment that has stuck long in the memory
At the time, The Game and The Rattlesnake were engaged in a bitter feud that would last for much of the next two years, give or take Austin’s time on the side lines with a neck injury (in storyline, Triple H masterminded a hit and run – Attitude Era innit?)
As such, the two regularly crossed paths on weekly episodes of Raw and Smackdown, while dark segments (those for the live crowd only) would often provide memorable go-home moments for the paying audience.
This was nowhere more evident than the below clip, in which Austin does his usual routine of offering his rival a beer to close the night before dropping them with a stunner once they’ve began to drink it. Timeless, really.
However, in this instance, Triple H sells it like perhaps no one before or since, flying backwards over the top rope and onto the outside. What tops it off is the fact he spits out the beer once he hits the ground.

Even at just five seconds, the brilliance of Triple H’s sell is there for all to see, as is the instant crowd reaction upon the delivery of the stunner. It really is a brilliant move.
Comments left below the tweet are similarly effusive in their praise, with some labelling it the best stunner ever. The Rock and Scott Hall (WrestleMania 18) might have something to say about that though.
What’s next for Stone Cold Steve Austin?
The two career rivals will hopefully cross paths once again this year, with Triple H setting the match, storyline and angle for another Stone Cold WrestleMania match.
Who he might face is unclear as yet, but a list of potential opponents are listed here. Could any of them sell a stunner like The Game however?
