Printt is a platform that connects those who need printing with those who have the facilities. Think of it as printing as a service. Users upload any type of file to the Printt app or website and if it’s A4, they can print it. We then either deliver their print to an address of their choice or they can collect it from our network of printers.

Businesses can also create a Printt account for an unlimited number of users that is fully paid for, with trackable spending and budget limits and added security for GDPR compliance and protection against data breach, leakage or theft. In the world of hybrid work, traditional office and business printing becomes even more complex, less convenient and less economical. No one needs to own a printer anymore and this can save everyone a lot of money and do a lot of good for the planet.

How did you come up with the idea for the company?

The idea came to us while we were still at university. We realized that the old way of printing just didn’t make sense anymore. More and more services are moving to an on-demand model, and it was obvious to us that print should go that way as well.

Most people who have a printer don’t use it that often, and those who do have to constantly change their ink, keep buying paper, and of course deal with all the malfunctions and error messages they get inclined personal printers. Home printing seemed old-fashioned, like owning VHS tapes in the streaming era. Plus, thousands of personal printers end up in landfills every year, which just means more plastic and chemicals are polluting the Earth.

Then we also thought about business. 90% of companies don’t track their printing costs and don’t even know how many printers they own, and half of IT help desk inquiries are printing-related. Many companies overlook printing costs because their contracts are too complex and difficult to understand, and they don’t realize how much money they’re leaving on the table. We realized that we could make the process transparent, predictable and modern.

On top of all that, traditional printing is terrible for the environment. We realized we could fix that too and all the equipment we use and partners we work with are carbon neutral and all the paper we print on is FSC approved.

How has Printt evolved over the past few years?

Our reach has grown tremendously. We have up to 400,000 individual users and over 1,000 business accounts, including the likes of Microsoft, Slack, Nike, NHS, Specsavers, Disney and Home Office.

We have also expanded our network significantly through our partnership with Ryman, giving us over 300 click and collect locations across the UK.

What can we hope to see from Printt in the future?

We’ve just raised over £1,000,000 to scale even further, which we’ll use to expand our partner network and reach more businesses. Businesses will always need to print documents, but they don’t need the complexity of providing printing hardware or approving and paying for printing costs to individuals.

We’re helping the UK move away from expensive ink, costly maintenance, time-consuming IT support and untracked costs. It’s wasteful, it’s bad for the environment, and we have the solution.
