Virat Kohli’s social media posts garner a lot of traction. Whether a simple photograph, a gym video or an announcement, Kohli’s posts go viral in minutes. A couple of days ago, the former India captain decided to post three photographs from India’s warm-up match against Leicestershire to show his gratitude towards the county side and the support he got there during the four-day game. Two of them were action from the match while the third one was from a training session. “Thank you Leicester, Birmingham awaits,” Kohli wrote while sharing the photos.

On Monday, John Mallett, the photographer who took those pictures, reacted to Kohli’s post. The Norwich-based photographer, who is an ardent sports fan, termed Kohli as ‘one of the greatest players of the world,’ and thanked him and Team India for their support.

“Hugely humbled that one of the world’s greatest players chose to use some of my images from the game with @leicsccc on his personal media accounts. A privilege to have been able to capture these shots. Thanks to VK & everyone @BCCI for your support,” Mallett wrote on Twitter.

Kohli was one of India’s top performers in the warm-up match where some of the Indian players also turned up for Leicester to get optimum practice before the Test match at Edgbaston in Birmingham against England starting July 1.

Kohli scored 33 in the first innings and then backed that up with a stroke-filled 67 in the second innings. The match ended in a draw but the visitors got enough time to get accustomed to the English conditions before the series decider.

The Birmingham Test will be treated as the ‘fifth Test’ of the series, which was cancelled due to Covid-19 cases last year. Kohli was the captain of the Indian, which had taken a 2-1 lead in the series last year.

A lot has changed since then. Rohit Sharma has taken over as India’s all-format captain and Kohli has seen a prolonged dry patch. The prolific right-hander, however, would be eager to get back to his best as India eye their first-ever series win in England since 2007.

They will face a rejuvenated English outfit under captain Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum who recently whitewashed New Zealand in the three-match Test series.
