Growing up in an interracial family can be challenging. Since one does not belong entirely to one culture, it is common for one to feel like an impostor in one’s own skin. Jessica Henwick, by Glass onion voicesis not only dealing with this struggle in her personal life, but navigating it further as a mixed-race actress in Hollywood, as she recently explained to us.

The 30-year-old actress is half Singaporean-Chinese on her mother’s side and has an English father. She has certainly found her footing in the industry over the years, between landing roles in Game of Thrones, star Wars and even The Resurrection Matrix along with Keanu Reevewith. Still, success can be overwhelming, especially when you’re a person of color trying to forge your identity. During an interview with CinemaBlend’s own Lowe Sharma, the rising star opened up about her own experiences as a biracial woman, saying the following:

When I started, the obstacle was just being a minority, whether I was mixed race or full Asian. In England, there just weren’t any roles if you weren’t white, to be honest. But it’s interesting, when the interest started to happen and the movement started to happen, England was a little behind America, but it was a ripple effect that trickled down to England and then the problem suddenly became, well, yeah, you don’t you are asian enough to play asian. So it’s an interesting dynamic. You are between two worlds. You are a foreigner to both cultures to some extent. Or both cultures see you as a foreigner, but that also has pluses. I can not complain. It’s just something I had to navigate for sure.
