It had released in the theatres on October 20, 1995 and even after 27 years, the magic of the film still exists in everyone’s heart. The songs, the sequences, and of course the dialogues including “Jaa Simran jaa, jee le apni zindagi” – well this one is definitely unforgettable.
While it might have been a long time, even then after all these years, the film remains one of the fan favourites.
It is pretty much difficult to find someone who hasn’t watched

On the occasion of its 27th anniversary, I got the chance to finally sit down for it and give it a watch. Surely, what better day than this?
So, after completing it, which let me be honest felt like a long time, here’s my thought on watching Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge in 2022.
First-Off
- The locations are beautiful. From Switzerland’s meadows to snowy mountains to the field, I liked the locations.
- All the characters are pretty vibrant. Everyone is quite excitable and energetic, and that too, most of the time.
Family
- Does that really happen? Yes, even though my mother is now my good friend, I wouldn’t let her read my personal diary.
- Looks like Simran’s dad, Baldev Singh (Amrish Puri) didn’t think before he agreed to his daughter’s wish.
- The bond between Raj (SRK) and his father played by Anupam Kher is special, but a bit over the top. Still fine.
- Considering it is just these two, it is not that hard to believe Raj’s father raised him that way, with so much positivity.
- How do people fall in love so quickly and so easily. Personally, I don’t feel that is possible. But hey, that’s just me.
- If you ask me, I did not like the train sequence. It was cringe and really freaky at times. Is that really flirting?
- Isn’t it quite annoying to have a guy constantly poke you and tease you while you try to do your thing? Mind it, he is a stranger.
- If Simran’s father (played by Amrish Puri) is fond of India so much, why didn’t he choose a Desi guy, but an NRI?
- Kuljeet who is Simran’s NRI fiancée doesn’t seem like a bad guy. Yes, he drinks, but he isn’t necessarily a terrible person.
- There sure are a lot of songs. Well, that was the trend back in the day, but still, each track being more than 5-minute long isn’t helping.
- But individually, the music is really great. The songs will remain in your mind even after many years.
- You can go around humming or singing, ‘tujhe dekha toh yeh….’ and someone might join you. It is impossible not to finish that song, at least inside your head.
- I can see why the Mandolin tune is so famous and iconic. It just has that kind of vibe that gets better with each listen.
- The “Jaa Simran Jaa” is actually good. I was rooting for her to catch Raj’s hand. Kind of celebrated when she did.
- What do you think? Will the movie work if it is released now? Maybe no. At least not when it is entirely the same.
- The plot, storyline, scenes, and all, it is difficult for such a film to work in the current era. It would need a lot of change.
- Overall, I can see why people like this movie a lot. Undoubtedly there are a few negatives, but it is a good watch.
- Also, the negatives aren’t really that, it is just logic in our head taking over going “does that really happen.”
- The cast is good. They might be a bit OTT in some places but it is fun to watch. The senior actors especially are really natural.
- Satish Shah, Amrish Puri, and Anupam Kher are the USPs of the movie. No matter what role, they do it with such sincerity.
A good watch, I must say!
