Fashion industry veteran Dapper Dan recently sat down with Claima Stories to discuss his latest Puma capsule collection, recently shown at New York Fashion Week in tandem with the rest of June Ambrose‘s collection.

The collaboration donned the creative’s signature “logomania,” or as Dapper Dan calls it, an “implementation of symbols that personify luxury.” In the conversation with Claima Stories, Dapper Dan looks back on his logomania influence and discusses how he has elevated the use of symbols within the industry. His vision has evidently revolutionized the way branding is perceived in fashion. Speaking on his intention with his Puma collection, Dan said,

“I want to elevate this. I want to give it more color…Let’s touch on my thing about logomania, but the main thing I want to do is elevate the brand. I wanna take the brand and make it more luxurious. It’s what I always did.”

Earlier in the interview, Dapper Dan gave more insight into his thinking behind logomania and how his one-of-a-kind creative vision has set a standard within the industry, influencing decades of fashion. He highlights,

“I look at something the same way I did with the symbols, you know, with logomania. I look at ‘em and I see what they can be. Logomania is still the same symbols but I took them to a level where they’ve never been used like that before.

The symbols didn’t change, just the way they were reflected is changed. So I tell young people, just look. Because you’re gonna reflect. Your eyes are only your eyes if you free yourself up from what somebody else is thinking and just see for yourself.”
