Retail Recap: The important openings and partnerships in September 2022

September saw an influx of store openings nationwide, with few permanent retail closures. However, a number of brands and retailers experienced a temporary halt to operations this month, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

News about UK economy continued to dominate during September, with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development saying it has downgraded its current annual projection for the UK economy due to “declining real incomes and disruptions in energy markets”.

This comes after the pound plunged to an all-time low against the US dollar amid hammered market confidence in the Government’s economic plans after the Chancellor unveiled the biggest tax cuts in 50 years.

Looking ahead, the cost of living crisis is expected to spell a challenging run-up to Christmas for retailers, with month-to-month overall UK footfall forecasted to decline in September, October and November.

Here is a list of the stores that announced their openings this month, as well as a number of partnerships from brands including Boohoo, Joules and Barbour.
