How to protect kids from sexual abuse?

Here are a few tips that would help your child be less vulnerable to sexual abuse:

  • Talk about body parts: It is important to teach children the proper names of each body part so that they can explain in case any inappropriate incident happens.
  • Tell the kids about private body parts: Without hesitation, children should be made aware of why private parts are kept private and not for everyone to see. It is very important to tell them not to let anyone see their bodies.
  • Teach them the concept of good touch, and bad touch: Children must know the boundaries regarding their body. They should be told that no one has to touch them in places they don’t like or force them to see anything wrong.
  • Teach them to say a firm no: Always teach your child to firmly say no to requests that are not right. No one should ask for their pictures without your consent.
  • Teach them how to deal with scary, confusing situations: There are many times children are uncomfortable in the presence of a few adults. Help them understand what is wrong and give tips to bail out without any confusion.
  • Trust your kids: If your child tells you they are uncomfortable in the presence of a certain adult, do listen to their concerns and act accordingly.
