Ganesh and Varsha Bolamma starrer Swatimutyam is slated for a grand release on October 5. The family concert is directed by debutant Lakshman K Krishna and produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi under Sithara Entertainments banner. Before the premiere of the film, we communicated with the director. Here is the transcript.

What was your inspiration to do Swatimutyam?

I got the idea from personal experience. When we see failure in our career or life, even our loved ones make fun of us. Sometimes we may not be able to bear it. This sets the stage for more drama and emotion. So, several things in my life made me do Swatimutyam.

What is the main plot point of Swatimutyam?

The movie is about a guy named Balamuralikrishna who is from a small town and gets a government job after his education. His whole family is determined to get him married soon. The challenges they face in this process form the heart of the story.

Why did you decide to have the classical title Swatimutyam?

We thought of many titles and then Radhakrishna (Chinna Babu) Garu suggested that we go ahead with Swatimutyam keeping in mind the innocence present in the hero’s character. I was skeptical at first, but Chinna Babu Garu assured me that once the trailer is out, the audience will understand the reason behind this title.

Is Varsha Bollamma your first choice?

She is certainly my first choice. After watching 96 I decided to make a film with such an actress. She was also in my mind when I was writing the female image. We happened to watch her middle class Melodies and then included her in our project.

For releasing alongside big films for Dussehra?

My producer’s call is to go ahead with the October 5 premiere. They want to give a family entertainer on the day of the festival. Being a big fan of Chiranjeevi, I am very happy that my film is releasing on the same day as his.

Who inspired you to become a film director?

Maniratnam, Vamshy, Bapu and Jandhyala are my all time favourites. I grew up watching their films and now here I am waiting for the release of my first film.

What about your next projects?

Well, I haven’t planned anything for now. I might work on a comedy thriller in the future.
