While senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is in the midst of his Bharat Jodo Yatra, shared a low-key “Happy Birthday” message, his colleagues were more critical.
Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor shared a photo with the Prime Minister on Twitter and said, “Wishing our @PMOIndia Shri @narendramodi ji a very happy birthday, good health and long life. May he work to remove the darkness that surrounds so many of our fellow citizens and instead bring them the light of progress, development and social harmony.

Jairam Ramesh, the Congress general secretary in charge of communications, also wished the prime minister, but added that the “ideological and political battles against him (Modi)” would continue. His (Modi) personal vendetta against us (Congress) is intensifying.”
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who showed his national ambition and also met opposition party leaders, conveyed his birthday wishes to the Prime Minister. “On behalf of the government and people of Telangana and on my own behalf, I wish you a very happy birthday. May God bless you with health and long life for many more years to serve the nation,” he said.
AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee – two of the BJP’s fiercest rivals – also wished the prime minister a happy birthday.
However, AAP’s social media was relentless in its criticism of the Prime Minister. Sharing a compilation of four short videos of the prime minister’s interviews over the years, the post read, “Happy birthday to the master innovator, tech geek, scientist par excellence, the one and only – Modi Ji.”

For each of the excerpts from the interview, the party, which has positioned itself as the main opposition in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, had a mocking caption.
In the first clip, the prime minister can be seen talking about “using a digital camera in 1987 and 1988” and having “email” which “only a few people had at the time”. AAP’s caption for the clip reads: “He could email in 1987-88.”
In the next clip, Modi is seen talking about “using a utensil, making a hole in it and fixing a pipe” in the next clip. He says, “Gas would come out of the ditch and through this pipeline and we would use it to make tea in our tea stall.” The caption for this clip reads: “He could make tea using ditch gas.”
And so on.
Others in the opposition also voiced their criticism of the prime minister.
I wish the Prime Minister this day he released cheetahs into Kuno National ParkTMC MP Mahua Moitra said: “Let him look after our fast disappearing constitutional protections the same way he looks after the extinct cheetahs.”
The Prime Minister’s fellow party members praised him.
In a tweet in Hindi, Amit Shah said, “@narendramodi is working to take the country forward in every field by connecting it to its original roots. New India became a world power under Modiji’s vision and leadership. Modi ji has left his mark as a global leader who is respected around the world.”
Saying that Modi is the creator of a “safe, strong and self-reliant New India”, “a symbol of service and dedication”, Shah added: “For the first time since independence, by giving rights to millions of poor, Modi ji has inspired a sense of hope and faith in them. Today every part of the country stands with Modi ji like a rock.”

Almost all CMs of BJP-ruled states, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, wished the PM.
