The 69th National Film Awards were announced on Friday, and the Hindi film Shershaah won the Special Jury Award. The film is a biopic on the life of Captain Vikram Batra, who was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra for his valour during the Kargil War.
69th National Film Awards: Karan Johar REACTS as SherShaah bags Special Jury Award; Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani call it “Special”
For the unversed, SherShaah was directed by Vishnu Vardhan and produced by Karan Johar. It stars Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani in the lead roles. The film was released in 2021 directly on Amazon Prime Video.
Reacting to the big win, producer Karan Johar took to his social media handle and penned a special note for the team. Simultaneously, the lead pair of the film, Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani also celebrated the moment. While Sidharth and Kiara called it “special,” Karan wrote, “You will so rarely find all the right people at the right time – come together with their buzzing creative energies and passion to create something special…that turns into something EXTRAORDINARY! Shershaah was that for us.”
The Special Jury Award is given to films that are of “outstanding merit” but do not fit into any of the other award categories. The jury for the 69th National Film Awards included Ketan Mehta, who presented the awards for the feature film categories.
