6 Celebrities who called out toxic culture in Bollywood

Bollywood is so full of glitz and glamour. With Bollywood celebrities looking their best, working in so many movies, attending award high class events and going on exotic vacations so frequently, it all seems like a fantasy, right? Well, behind the garb of luxury and stardom, films and Bollywood are victim to a lot of toxicity and internal politics that is hardly spoken about openly.

Here are 6 Bollywood celebrities who called out toxic culture in the film industry.

1. Priyanka Chopra: In a recent podcast show, Priyanka Chopra opened up about how she was fed up of being bullied and cornered in Bollywood. She also said she wasn’t being cast in some movies as she had some “beef” with some people. She admitted that she lost on some good roles and when the opportunity knocked at her door, she decided to switch to Hollywood.

2. Vivek Oberoi: Vivek Oberoi is one of those actors who had a great start to his career with films like ‘Company’ and ‘Saathiya’ but later, because of lobbying and politics, had to sit at home for 14 months without any work. The actor too recently opened up about this and also agreed with Priyanka Chopra on her comment. He said, “I went through a lot of stuff that was unnecessary. A lot of lobbies, a lot of repressive stories – kind of what Priyanka (Chopra) has been alluding to also,” He added, “You feel like, I’ve just delivered an award winning, commercially successful performance in Shootout At Lokhandwala and after that, I’m sitting at home for 14 months, not getting any work.”
3. Kangana Ranaut: Kangana Ranaut is a bold and fierce actress who never hesitates to speak her heart out on issues that deserve to come on the forefront. In her appearance on Karan Johar’s famous talk show, ‘Koffee With Karan,’ the actress openly blamed him for launching star kids only and not giving opportunities to outsider. She said, “In my biopic, if it is ever made, you will play this stereotypical Bollywood biggie who is very snooty and completely intolerant to outsiders and flag bearer of nepotism, the movie mafia.”
4. Abhay Deol: Abhay Deol is a fantastic yet underrated actor. He has done so many noteworthy films in his career but has still been at the receiving end of the dark side of Bollywood. The actor has earlier claimed that Bollywood lobby has went against him as he and Farhan Akhtar were “demoted” from the main leads of ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ and git nominated as supporting actors in award functions.
5. Sushant Singh Rajput: Late actor Sushant Singh Rajput once requested a fan to watch his film ‘Sonchiriya’ as she was upset that the actor dies in all his movies which is why she didn’t want to watch them. To this, Sushant replied, “Arre but if you do not watch it then they would throw me out of Bollywood. I have no godfather, I have made you (all) my Gods and fathers. Watch it at least if you wish I do survive in Bollywood.”
6. Resul Pokkutty: Even after winning an Oscar for ‘Slumdog Millionaire,’ Resool Pokkutty once revealed that he didn’t get work in Hindi films. He said, “There were production houses that told me at my face ‘we don’t need you.’”
