Patriotic tops and bottoms, a prom dress and a Grinch costume were among the styles showed off at this year’s Logan County Fair 4-H Fashion Revue held Friday evening in the Dorothy Corsberg Theater at Northeastern Junior College.
Participants in four divisions decorated or constructed a garment and then modeled it. The judging was based on posture, poise, grooming, attitude and the outfit on the model. This includes becomingness to the model, choice of texture, color and style, fit, and accessories.
Judges for the event were Sharon Blackham and Andrea Young, and the emcee was Heather Brungardt.
This year’s winner in the Junior Division was Remington Gerlach, who was ready to blast off in her outer space print skirt that she made in her first year of clothing construction. She chose the 100% cotton fabric because it looked fun and was a different color than most of the other clothes in her wardrobe. As a gift from her grandma and great grandma, who helped her sew the skirt, they made her a matching reversible vest and headband to pair with the skirt.
Reserve Champion in the Junior Division was Mya Friend. She wore a skirt and top she sewed for her first-year 4-H sewing construction project. To make the outfit she used a teal 100% cotton material with little red and yellow flowers, to match her personality. She paired it with her favorite western belt and cowboy boots, a turquoise butterfly necklace and turquoise earrings and a bracelet.
Other competitors in the Junior Division were Paisley Morgan, Lilly Johnson and Brennyn Kailey.
The Intermediate Division Champion was Taylor Tribbett, who wore the outfit she created for her first year competing in upcycle your style. She decide to upcycle a pair of jeans with a “Proud to be an American” theme and paired them with a pair of red, white and blue star earrings, American flag sunglasses, a USA t-shirt and white sandals.
Intermediate Reserve Champion was Piper Withers, who modeled a Grinch costume that she made for her costume design project.
The costume was made up of separate parts, so it would be easier to put on and take off. She attached pieces of fabric to the bottom of her pants to cover her shoes and then she added elastic so she could slide her pants over her shoes and they could stay in place while walking. For the hoodie top, she added a pocket to the inside to fill with stuffing for a fuller belly.
Other competitors in the Intermediate Division were Dakota Coggin and Zaly Blecha.
The Senior Division Champion was Ashton Nichols, who modeled her upcycle your style project. She painted red and white stripes and white stars on a light colored pair of jeans and to go with them she took a white t-shirt and applied the letters USA to it in red fabric and also painted custom starts and stripes shoes to match. Nichols accessorized her look with a patriotic bracelet and simple dangly earrings.
Reserve Champion in the Senior Division was Ayla Baney. She designed a pair of Tiger jeans to wear to Sterling High School football games and spirit days, with orange and black paw prints on her pockets, her graduating year on the leg and an orange glittery ribbon along the seams. Baney paired the jeans with a black t-shirt, stud diamond earrings and tennis shoes.
Both Nichols and Baney will represent Logan County at the Colorado State Fair.
Other competitors in the Senior Division included Natalie Adels and Mattea Pelton.
The Encore Division Champion was Withers, who wore a long-sleeved shirt with arrows on it, paired with a gray cardigan, light wash ripped skinny jeans and a pair of dusty gray knee-high boots with fun leather designs. She finished off the outfit with gold jewelry.
Reserve Champion in the Encore Division was Ashton Nichols, who modeled a dress she was given by a close friend.
The elegant floor-length royal blue gown featured a sweetheart neckline with a crisscross pleated bodice, spaghetti straps and zippered back closure. The flowy, high-waisted A-line skirt was covered with layers of glittered tool. She paired it with a pair of chunky high-heeled silver glittered sandals, dangly silver earrings and a simple diamond necklace.
Other competitors in the Encore Division included Adels, Baney, Sarah Roys, Pelton, Tribbett, Friend, Kailey and Gerlach.
Along with the models in the judged categories, the show also featured the 2022 rodeo royalty and the 2023 contestants.
