Since the MCU established itself as a pivotal moment in the 21st-century film industry, Marvel Studios has translated a fair share of classic stories from the comics. However, there are still thousands of stories waiting to become films in this cinematic universe. Of course, fans are eager to know which comics will be adapted next, especially considering the house of ideas has a lot of comics that would work perfectly as a movie.
If given a chance, these Marvel Comics would translate to the big screen well. Whether it’s because they stick to a film genre from their very first panels or because its obvious audiovisual tools would complement to their stories, Disney should give them a chance.
10/10 Damage Control Could Be Hilarious If Properly Planned
Written by Adam F. Goldberg (The Goldbergs), Damage Control is a humorous ongoing series about Gus, a new intern who’s still finding his place in the Damage Control office. The series parodies office life and features many of Marvel’s most iconic heroes as background characters in domestic situations.
Damage Control is already hilarious, but considering the MCU cast’s knack for comedy, a film (or even TV series) would take it to the next level. It could also show a kinder side of their world, in contrast to Ms. Marvel or Spider-Man: Far From Home. This comic has the potential to become Marvel’s own Powerless.
9/10 Avengers Arena Would Make A Dope Thriller
Created by Dennis Hopeless and Kev Walker, Avengers Arena is a Marvel take on the Koushun Takami and eventual film, Battle Royale. This comic follows a group of teen superheroes who are kidnapped by Arcade, who puts them in Murderworld and makes them kill each other for his own amusement.
One of the most thrilling Marvel series, Avengers Arenais full of twists and turns that would work excellently in a film. Now that the MCU has so many young superheroes, this could be a fine challenge to put them through. With the right cinematography, it would be a great thriller.
8/10 Franken-Castle Feels Like A Joke Until It Doesn’t
Punisher: Franken-Castle by Rick Remender and Jerome Opena tells the story of the Punisher after Daken murders him. When the Legion of Monsters reconstructs him, Frank must find a way to live with his new self whilst also plotting vengeance against his murderer.
Franken-Castle feels a lot like a joke character in the comics, but given how explicit it is, a movie — especially an R-rated movie — would give him the respect he deserves. A body-horror movie with Punisher as a bloodthirsty monster would have fans forgetting his cheesy nickname.
7/10 Spider-Punk Needs Music To Make Full Sense
Directly from The Amazing Spider-Man #10 by Dan Slott and Olivier Coipel, Hobie Brown is back and starring as Spider-Punk, protecting Earth-138 from criminals rooted in the system. His new series, by Cody Ziglar and Justin Mason, pits him against new enemies like Kraven the Hunter and Ta$kmaster. It also brings him new allies, including Captain Anarchy and Riotheart.
Earth-138 depicts an exciting universe where all heroes are anarchists against the government, but additionally, this political dimension is fully connected with punk as protest music. For instance, Spider-Punk has a band. Since the comics can’t truly provide music, a film with a dope soundtrack would take Hobbie Brown’s adventures to the next level.
6/10 World War Hulk Could Take Advantage Of Some Serious CGI Technology
After the Illuminati sent Hulk into space, the Jade Giant returned stronger than ever thanks to Sakaar’s radiation. Now known as World Breaker Hulk and accompanied by new and powerful allies, each of whom would help him get justice for his punishment, he started a chain reaction of chaos among all superhero teams.
Marvel fans have been asking for a World War Hulkadaptation since the Hulk debuted in the MCU, but it would’ve been a mistake to take this route before Marvel Studios could develop the technology to do it justice. A film with good CGI would make this story even better.
5/10 The Noir Vibe Of “Night Raven: House Of Cards” Translates Better On The Screen
Jamie Delano, David Lloyd, and Jenny O’Connor created Night Raven: House of Cards. It’s an obscure dark noir graphic novel about Night Raven, a vigilante in 1930s America who’s in a war against his city’s gangsters. Far from an action-packed tale, Night Raven: House of Cards is a slow-burn mystery with the general vibe of a detective movie and a Batman comic.
Night Raven: House of Cards’ charm comes from its vintage aesthetic. Its slow-paced mystery, full of mysterious characters, could use some audiovisual details to add to its charm. Therefore, a film is the best option for translating its atmospheric vibe.
4/10 A-Force Would Be An Infinitely Cooler Spin-Off Film
“Decidedly feminist” A-Force was an all-female superteam that debuted during the 2015 event, Secret Wars. Created by G Willow Wilson, Marguerite Bennet, and Jorge Molina, this series was added to Marvel’s primary continuity with Captain Marvel, Medusa, She-Hulk, Singularity, Nico Minoru, and Dazzler in its roster.
Unfortunately for fans, A-Force didn’t last long and left fans wanting more, but a live-action adaptation (considering pretty much all the members of the team have a small or big screen version) may help balance the team’s adventures. Female camaraderie plus epic adventures could reach new audiences.
3/10 Doctor Aphra Has A Lot Of Potential
Star Wars: Doctor Aphra, written by Kieron Gillen and Simon Spurrier, centers on the adventures of Doctor Chelli Lona Aphra, a lesbian and rogue archeologist. Set between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, it depicts her and her team’s adventures after leaving Darth Vader.
Like all Star Wars stories, Doctor Aphra could make use of many audiovisual components. The comics do a great job at depicting her adventures through space, but a film à la Rogue One could add a lot to the story, especially when it comes to special effects and a good soundtrack. This would cement her place in fans’ hearts for good.
2/10 Hulk: The End Could Take Advantage Of Ruffalo’s Range
When a nuclear holocaust destroys Earth, Bruce Banner’s immunity to radiation means he’s the only human left. Tired of living alone, he tries to commit suicide, but Hulk won’t let him. Hulk: The End depicts the final days of Dr. Banner, who dies and gives Hulk complete control of his body.
Hulk: The End, by Peter David, Dale Keown, and Joe Weems is considered one of the darkest Marvel comics, but this isn’t due to its explicit violence. Instead, it’s a somber story. If Mark Ruffalo manages to convey Bruce’s desperation in a live adaptation, he’d make the story better than its comic counterpart.
1/10 Avengers Vs. X-Men Would Be An Epic Crossover
When the Phoenix Force returns to Earth, the Avengers and X-Men have very different opinions on dealing with the matter. While the X-Men think this cosmic identity will bring new hope for their race, the Avengers consider it too much of a threat to life on Earth. Created by Jason Aaron, Brian Michael Bendis, Ed Brubaker, Jonathan Hickman, Olivier Coipel, John Romita Jr., Adam Kubert, Matt Fraction, and Frank Cho, Avengers vs. X-Men follow the ensuing war between the two factions.
Avengers vs. X-Men is already incredible, but as a cinematographic event, it would be as memorable as Avengers: Endgame. Disney needs to hurry up and introduce mutants to the MCU so this can be the main arc of Phase Seven.
