2022 was an intense year for Hollywood. There were tons of scandals that rocked the public to the core, from Kanye West’s increasingly bizarre behavior to a number of high-profile cheating scandals (we’re looking at you, Adam Levine and Tristan Thompson).
But it wasn’t an entirely negative year. In fact, there are some celebrities that seemed to benefit from the unpredictability of 2022. The following celebrities all made comebacks in one way or another. Some of these famous folks previously announced a hiatus from Hollywood, or were experiencing a low point in their career that never seemed like it would end. For others, they’ve found mainstream success after years of laying low or not achieving critical success.
What’s clear is that 2022 was a good year for the careers of the following celebrities, and if history repeats itself, then there’s no reason to expect that that new year will be any different.
10/10 Cameron Diaz
In 2018, Cameron Diaz announced his retirement from acting to focus on her family. But the hiatus was short-lived, as she revealed her return nearly a decade after her last acting role.
Cameron will be joining Jamie Foxx’s new movie Back in Action, which she confirmed in a video announcing her unretirement on Twitter. It’s unclear when the film will debut.
9/10 Hayden Christensen
Hayden Christensen’s best known role is as Anakin Skywalker/ Darth Vader in the Star Wars franchise. He finally reprised the role this year in Obi-Wan Kenobi, much to the acclaim of critics.
The comeback went so well that Hayden has confirmed he’ll return to the role in Ahsoka, and potentially other Star Wars projects, too.
8/10 Britney Spears
She was released from her decade-long conservatorship last year, but 2022 was the year Britney Spears took hold of her career.
The singer used her newfound freedom to express herself on social media, marry her long-time partner Sam Asghari, and even released new music – a duet with Elton John on his classic song “Hold Me Closer.” Now, fans are itching to see the pop star release original music on her own terms.
7/10 Brendan Fraser
Brendan Fraser was a major heartthrob in the ‘90s but appeared to fall off the grid in recent years. However, he made a major comeback with the 2022 movie The Whale, for which he’s received critical acclaim.
Brendan has also signed on to a variety of other projects, so fans can expect to see him in other roles in the new year.
6/10 Lindsay Lohan
The former child actress was known for her downward spiral that spanned several years in the 2000s and 2010s. However, the actress made a career comeback this year thanks to the Netflix holiday film Falling for Christmas.
Though her acting received mixed reviews, fans were excited to see the former Disney star back on the big screen… and they’re eager for even more, which is a good sign for Lindsay’s career.
5/10 Macaulay Culkin
He made a name for himself as a child in the Home Alone series, but Macaulay Culkin stepped away from the spotlight in adulthood. However, he announced he signed on to one of his first movies roles in years last May.
He’s set to star beside Daniel Bruhl and Rosamund Pike in Spanish director Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia’s thrilled Rich Flu, which will likely debut sometime in the new year.
4/10 Halle Berry
The Oscar-winning actress slowed down her career in recent years, but fans can expect to see more of her moving forward.
She starred in the Netflix-produced movie The Mothership, which released this year, and is setting her up for another release in the new year, titled Our Man from Jersey.
3/10 Selma Blair
She was formerly a ‘90s It Girl, but Selma Blair took a step back from the spotlight in recent years to focus on her health struggles, revealing that she has multiple sclerosis.
However, the actress didn’t let her health hold her back this year. She not only released a memoir detailing her struggles, but also appeared on the 31st season of Dancing with the Stars. Selma also earned a standing ovation while presenting at the 2022 Emmy Awards.
2/10 Jack Gleeson
Jack Gleeson won people over with his portrayal of Joffrey in Game of Thrones, but he announced he was taking a break from acting in 2014.
However, it appears his hiatus is over. The British actor had two movie appearances this year alone with Rebecca’s Boyfriend and In the Land of Saints and Sinners. Fans can expect to see him in more roles in the future.

The talented director took nearly a decade break in between his projects, but he returned to the big screen this year with Elvis. Starring Austin Butler, the movie followed the legendary rocker’s impressive career, and has returned Baz’s films to the mainstream.
