The final countdown is on for The Fashion Awards 2022. And while we might still be in paroxysms of joy over getting to speak to the ceremony’s host Jodie Turner-Smith this last week, we’ve got our own special little hosting announcement to make.
This year, in a bid to bring our ELLE readers on the journey with us, from styling sessions, through to red carpet and even pulling back the curtain on what goes on behind the scenes at the Royal Albert Hall on Monday December 5, we’ve enlisted the help of longtime friend of the magazine, journalist and author Yomi Adegoke.
Dressed by British design legend and multiple Fashion Awards winner Christopher Kane, the author of Slay in Your Lane, and more recently debut novel The List, Adegoke will invite our ELLE audience to come with her as she takes her mesh Neous mule heels up the sprawling steps of the iconic London venue and heads backstage to the Gold Studio by Moët & Chandon, where we’ll film her speaking to winners and presenters as they come off stage, as well as rubbing shoulders with some of the fashion industry’s most impressive emerging talent. For those keen to know what ‘access all areas’ really entails, it will feel like you’re in the room.
The British Fashion Council – as well as treating us to the enormous spectacle that is The Fashion Awards annually – also do a great deal to support and nurture designers as they build and launch their brands. Part of this commitment comes in the form of education, grant-giving and business mentoring, supplied by the BFC Foundation. During Monday’s event, Adegoke will be attending a drinks reception in the Gold Studio by Moët & Chandon for designers supported by this Foundation, including Bethany Williams, Chet Lo, Richard Malone, Masha Popova, Grace Wales Bonner, Saul Nash and Sinead O’Dwyer, among others.
On being invited to host our coverage of the awards, Adegoke said: ‘I’m thrilled. With my journalism, fashion has not been something that’s been at the forefront of my career, but it’s something I’ve had an interest in. I’ve always loved it in a very instinctive way. So, I’ve always looked at The Fashion Awards with all the fanfare around it online and on Instagram, and thought I’d love to go one day.
‘It’s always an honour when you’re asked to work with a brand you love like ELLE. Kenya [Hunt, Editor-in-Chief] is phenomenal. I will never forget when the announcement came out about the contributing editors she brought in, and I was just fist pumping, because this level of diversity – not just racial diversity, but diversity of thought, diversity of experience, with just incredible women – is amazing to see,’ she finishes.
So, if you’re keen to join the ELLE Team and Yomi Adegoke as we head to one of the most glittering nights of the year, be sure to follow us across Twitter, Instagram and TikTok on Monday night and watch the site for the main video to drop first thing on Tuesday December 6.
