This weekend the golf world and the world of pop culture intertwine in Monetery Peninsula as the PGA gets set for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am.
Bing used to orgainze annual bash
Celebrities from the sports, movie, and music industries will strut their swing in the first of two events where amateurs link up with golfers on the links. The stage couldn’t be more inviting for those looking to test their game against the PGA’s best in one of golf’s biggest weekends.
The first ever tournament was organized all the way back in 1937 by Bing Crosby, and it was know as the National Pro-Amateur. It was more cordially knows the Crosby Clambake, and the inaugural tournament at Rancho Santa Fe Club was won by Sam Snead. The tournament eventually moved to Monterey Peninsula and got rebranded in 1986 when AT&T took over as the primary sponsor.
Since then there has been a rich history of high profile celebrities attending the Pro-Am, and this year will be no different. “Building upon the rich tradition established by Bing Crosby and his celebrity friends, it is incredible to bring all these talented amateur golfers together for the week at Pebble Beach,” said Steve John, CEO of Monterey Peninsula Foundation, host of the Pro-Am. “Add in the fact they are here to play in the most charitable tournament on the PGA TOUR and it’s a win-win all the way around.”
ProAm star watch
Many of the PGA’s heavy hitters will be in attendance this weekend as major winners Jordan Spieth and Matt Fitzpatrick headline the 156 golfer field. But what makes this tournament special are the amateurs, so here is a list of all of the celebs that will be hitting the links this weekend in California.
From the sports world:
Football players from the past and present make up most of the list in this edition of the tournament as Harris Barton, Aaron Rodgers, Steve Young, Ron Rivera, Josh Allen, Larry Fitzgerald and Alex Smith.
Three time World Series champ, Buster Posey, is also in the field and he is joined by NBA great Pau Gasol and former Real Madrid star Gareth Bale.
In the entertainment world:
Arrested Development stars Jason Bateman and Will Arnett will make their debuts at the tournament. Pro-Am regulars Bill Murray, Nate Bargatze, Josh Dehamel, Scott Eastwood, Chris O’Donnell, Michael Peña, Ray Romano, Alfonso Ribiero and former Miss America Kira Dixon will be returning to the tournament.
Make way for the music industry:
Some of the top artists in pop, country and rap will be teeing off from Monterey Peninsula this weekend as well. Charles Kelly, Macklemore, Pat Monahan, Lukas Nelson, Jake Owen, Eric Church, Illenium, Ben Rector, ScHoolBoyQ, and Darius Rucker will be playing the famous Pebble Beach Course.
The 2023 AT&T Pro-Am will start on Feb. 2 and will be played on three courses. Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hills and Moneterey Peninsula will play hosts to this year’s tournament as Tom Hoge looks to defend his title this weekend.
