The Jan. 6 group released a report detailing Trump’s “conspiracy.”
Donald Trump’s tax returns have been released, putting the former president’s finances and business practices firmly in the spotlight as he also faces calls to impeach him in connection with the January 6 riot at the US Capitol.
The House Ways and Means Committee voted to release the documents last week as it revealed that Mr Trump’s taxes had only been audited once in his four years in office – even though annual audits are required .
The release of the tax returns comes after a January 6 House special committee investigating Mr. Trump’s role in the Capitol riot released additional batches of interview transcripts.
Thursday’s edition featured some big names from Trumpworld, including Donald Trump Jr., Kimberly Guilfoyle and Stephen Miller, as well as White House insiders who have turned against Mr. Trump, including Stephanie Grisham and Alyssa Farrah Griffin.
Friday’s edition featured interviews with Ginny Thomas, Rudy Giuliani, Jared Kushner and two more sessions with former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson.
“Is it true that you paid $750 in federal income tax?”
Although Donald Trump’s tax returns have been an issue since he emerged as the presumptive Republican nominee in 2015, the issue was still in the spotlight as he ran for re-election in 2020.
On September 29 of that year, he faced Joe Biden in the first debate at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
Moderator Chris Wallace, then of Fox News, now CNN, specifically asked the then-president about his federal income taxes.
“I know you pay a lot of other taxes, but I’m asking you the specific question of whether you paid $750 in federal income taxes for each of those two years [2016 and 2017]?” asked Wallace.
“I paid millions of dollars in taxes, millions of dollars in income taxes,” Mr. Trump responded, going on to say he paid $38 million one year and $27 million another.
Pressed further when Mr Biden called on him to release his taxes, the then-president again said he had paid millions of dollars in 2016 and 2017.
As we now know from the release of the tax returns, he did pay $750 in federal income taxes for each of those years.

In his testimony, Eric Hershman described “screaming” and “yelling” in the White House at meetings after the election.
“They’re yelling at us that we’ve given up, that we’re not going to go ahead and fight this the way they’ve suggested,” he says of supporters of fighting the election outcome at all costs.

In an interview with the House committee investigating the attack on the US Capitol, the transcript of which was released on Friday, Ms Thomas said she was “not very deep” in her knowledge of specific allegations of voter fraud during lobbying effort, but instead “based what I believed on people I trusted and news I trusted.”

Hershman recalls stepping in when Clark tried to become attorney general
Eric Hershman told the committee Jan. 6 that he stepped in when Jeffrey Clark, assistant attorney general for the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, made an eleventh-hour move to become attorney general after the election.
“I didn’t think Jeff Clarke was qualified to be attorney general,” Mr. Hershman said, adding that he had cross-examined him before the president about what his strategy was.
“Well done, shit… you just admitted your first step or action you would take as attorney general would commit a crime,” he told the committee he said at the time.

Hershman says Goetz asked for ‘broad pardon’ to ‘cover everything’
Trump adviser Eric Hershman told the committee on Jan. 6 that Florida Rep. Matt Goetz had approached the administration for a “broad pardon” to “cover everything.”
I don’t know if this is criminal behavior that he would engage in. He wanted a pardon, as far as I can remember, from the beginning of time until this day for everything.
And the discussion was whether he would be prosecuted or whether others would potentially be prosecuted for things that they had done in connection with statements dealing with election contestation. We had discussions about the protection of speech and debate and what he was – what the potential concern was. And he asked for a very, very broad pardon.

Miller says Trump was confused that people thought he wasn’t going to leave office
According to Jason Miller, President Donald Trump was confused as to why people thought he would try to stay in office beyond January 20, 2021.
And I remember the president saying, ‘I mean, do these guys really think I’m not going to leave on the 20th?’ , that you’re leaving.” And he says, “That’s just crazy talk. Why stay here after the 20th or after noon on the 20th? That’s crazy.” And I’m like, “That’s why we need to get it straight.”
