It seems that Christopher Nolan has met his match. As per reports, the all-India collections of Nolan’s Oppenheimer have slackened considerably with the release of Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in lead roles, sources from a handful of multiplexes across the country confirm that the opening of Karan Johar’s film is from good to outstanding.
The first day collections of Rocky Aur Rani… are expected to touch double digits.
Multiplex sources feel by the weekend Karan’s fulsome mainstream mass-machli eye-catcher will take over the audiences’ attention.
Opening audiences seem to love these elements in Rocky Aur Rani: the searing chemistry between Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh which they feel is far better than the Alia-Ranbir chemistry in Brahmastra; they also adore the veteran cast Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Churni Ganguly, also television actress Kishitee Jog and Anjali Anand whose monologue on spousal despotism and body shaming, respectively, are the taali-planned highlights of the entertainer.
But the biggest highlight of the show is Ranveer Singh and Tota Roy Choudhury dancing to Dola re dola from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas.
There are at least 7-8 plot points where the audience is roused into cheering and clapping. And that is 6-7 more than any other film in the last five years.
On the OTT platform JioCinema’s Kaalkoot and Manish Gupta’s One Friday Night are also out. JioCinema seems to have no idea about how to market their products which they buy at incredibly high prices. They were willing to play 90-100 crores for a straight-to-OTT release of OMG2.
