Drishyam was undoubtedly one of the best thrillers to come out of the Indian film industry. The 2015 film was the Hindi adaptation of the Malayalam film that released two years ago. Directed by Jeethu Joseph, the film is somewhat similar to the Japanese novel The Devotion Of Suspect X, a crime masterpiece by Keigo Higashino. Drishyam 2 is a remake again. This time the challenge for the protagonist Vijay Salgaoncar (Ajay Devgn) is different from the first time.
What are you talking about…
Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay Devgn) is prosperous and lives lavishly with his family. The past haunts them, but he has made his family act as if nothing happened. Meera Deshmukh (Tabu) and her husband Mahesh (Rajat Kapoor) live in pain that they cannot even perform the last rites of their son in a proper manner. She still wants justice. A new IG of police and Meera’s close friend Tarun Ahlawat (Akshaye Khanna) enters the scene. He is a shrewd cop and obsessed with the case. Is this the end for Vijay Salgaonkar and his family?

What’s new
Drishyam 2 has all the key elements of a good thriller. There is a consistent element of suspense, uplifting scenes and a climax that will blow your mind. We won’t give any spoilers here. Talking about performances, Ajay Devgn and Tabu steal the show. Their eyes speak volumes. Akshaye Khanna brings flair, panache and menace to the role of Tarun. Shriya Saran is also in good form. Director Abhishek Pathak deserves a pat on the back. The film shines on all fronts be it performances, technical aspects and emotion. Cinematography by Sudhir K Chaudhary is awesome. The BGM given by Devi Sri Prasad also works well for the film. The vibe of the film is contemporary and you will connect on all fronts. It is also a big screen film as the film has its share of atmosphere. Fans of the TV show Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin will be happy to see actor Siddharth Bodke who is popularly known as Jagtap from the TV show.
What is not
The first half is a preparation for the incredible climax. Some may find it a bit bland, but that’s beside the point. The only problem is that fans of the franchise might have watched the Malayalam version that was released and will understand the twists and turns.
Judgment
Drishyam 2 is a movie that will have you cheering in the halls and talking about the climax for days. This is one movie you shouldn’t miss.
