There were reports that Akshay Kumar has backed out of acting in Hera Pheri 3. Recently, Paresh Rawal confirmed in a tweet that Kartik Aaryan will be starring in the comedy franchise. While many fans were shocked by the current development, the real reason behind Akshay being replaced by Karthik has now been revealed.
According to Bollywood Hungama, producer Firoz Nadiadwala has been holding parallel discussions with Akshay and Kartik for the past few weeks. He wanted to revive the comedy franchise and started working on it as soon as possible.
The report further states that Akshay has specified Rs 90 crore as his fee with some additional profit share as his remuneration. On the other hand, Karthik was ready to make the film for Rs 30 crore. When Firoz held a discussion with the satellite and digital players, he realized that working with Kartik would fetch him more lucrative returns than with Akshay on board.
The difference between Karthik and Akshay’s fee was almost Rs 60 crore and after the discussion Firoz found that there is only Rs 15 crore less for Karthik than Akshay when it comes to extracting money from satellite and digital players. The producer almost saved Rs 45 crore with the deal.
Firoz again tried to convince Akshay to enter into a profit sharing agreement, but Khiladi Kumar turned him down as he felt that the Hera Pheri franchise was profiting mainly because of his presence. With talks not progressing, Firoz had no choice but to zero in on Karthik for Raju’s role in Hera Pheri 3.
The film will now be directed by Anees Bazmee and the talks are almost at an advanced stage. Akshay would be directed by Farhad Samji as the actor took a huge share of the profits. It says that the key to the success of Hera Pheri 3 also lies in the tight budget and now everything has fallen into place.
