The Law and order franchise has clearly found the recipe for primetime success, with the original show debuting in 1990 and returning in 2022 after a few years off, as if it never aired. This time Jack McCoy was joined by a number of new stars including Hannibal alum Hugh Dancy as ADA Nolan Price. The actor recently spoke to CinemaBlend about the case this prompted Price to change his own rolesand he shared what stories he’d like to do again… even though they’re surprising to the norm of Law and order.
Price went through the wringer in the episode where he found the body of a woman he once had a relationship with and then had to testify in court about that relationship after crossing the line by which Hugh Dancy described as “a terrible thing”. Of course, it was rough on his character and when asked what he would like to do again in the future Law and order as Price, Dancy explained:
Well, at least his previous romantic outing in Season 22 didn’t involve him dating a victim! However, his brief moment of romance led to a truly horrific hate crime with a number of victims on the subway in the fall. Law and order often doesn’t spend much time on the personal lives of its characters, even compared to spinoffs Law & Order: SVU and Law and Order: Organized Crime.
At least Hugh Dancy finds it interesting when the long-running drama delves into Price’s romantic life! It’s just unfortunate for the character that hints of his love life tend to involve tragedy in one form or another. When I pointed out that Price’s on-screen novels are never just a harmless coffee date, the actor replied:
Only time will tell if Law and order gives Price more of a love life without death, destruction, or crises, but he’s certainly not the only character who doesn’t get much romance on the show. Maroon’s personal life is usually explored in the context of the loss of her sister, while the show concerns Cosgrove as a parent.
A show got a big episode in the fall finalewhen faced with the case of a A black man who was unjustly imprisoned having been failed by both the law and order side of the system. Lt. Dixon shared some of his personal life when he revealed knowing ASL because of her son. Price just had some serious bad luck when it comes to romance!
See what’s next for Price and the others with the remaining episodes of Law and order Season 22 Thursdays at 8pm ET on NBC! The show has not yet renewed for Season 22, but hopefully news on that front (as well as for SVU and Organized crime) is on its way soon, and fans can always revisit earlier episodes streamed with a Peacock Premium Subscription.
