Prince Harry has made fresh accusations against the royal family in two TV interviews about his new memoir Spare.
The Duke of Sussex spoke to ITV’s Tom Bradby on Sunday and CBS’ Anderson Cooper early Monday morning to discuss the revelations made in the book, including that he was physically assaulted by his brother, the Prince of Wales, and that he tried drugs including cocaine and cannabis as a teenager.
In interviews, Prince Harry delved further into his personal struggles, further accusing Prince William and the Princess of Wales of stereotyping the Duchess of Sussex. He also accused the Queen Consort of leaking stories to the press.
Here are the top 10 things we learned.
“Kate and William stereotyped Meghan”
The Duke of Sussex accused the Prince and Princess of Wales of “stereotyping” Meghan as a “divorced biracial American actress” in his interview with ITV.
Prince Harry told host Bradby that his brother Prince William and his wife never got on with Meghan “from the beginning”.
“There was a lot of stereotyping going on that I was guilty of early on,” he said.
“An American actress, right, and it was also playing out in the British press in the media at the time. Some of the things that my brother and sister-in-law – some of the way they acted or behaved – definitely felt to me like, unfortunately, their stereotypes created some sort of barrier, you know, presenting it or welcoming it.
Diana’s death ‘unexplained’
Prince Harry said “a lot is unexplained” about his mother’s death 26 years later and he still has questions about the tragedy.
He recalls the “crazy” moment he drove through the tunnel alone and believes it is “almost physically impossible to lose control of a vehicle unless you are completely blinded by the wheel”.
The Duke of Sussex said he believed that if the paparazzi hadn’t followed his mother’s car, the “end result” would not have happened.
He told Bradby: “There are many things that are inexplicable. Before that I was asked if I wanted to open another inquiry. I really don’t see the point at this stage.”
“Dad was never made for single parenting”
Prince Harry has questioned whether his father, King Charles, had the “patience” and “time” for parenting.
“He always gave the impression that he wasn’t quite ready for parenthood: the responsibilities, the patience, the time. Even he, though a proud man, would admit it. But single parenthood? Dad was never cut out for this. To be fair, he tried,” he wrote Spare.
But he said he will “always love” his father despite their current challenges.
Harry hadn’t spoken to his brother or father in a while
Prince Harry admitted on 60 Minutes interview that he is not currently speaking with his brother and father.
“Are you talking to William now? Are you texting?” Cooper asked.
The Duke said, “Uh, not at the moment. But I look forward to being able to find peace.”
He said he hadn’t spoken to his father “in quite some time.”
Royalty got into bed with the devil
The royals were “in bed with the devil”, Prince Harry has claimed as he talks about information which is believed to have been leaked to the press.
He told Bradby: “After many, many years of lies being told about me and my family, there comes a time when, going back to the relationship between certain members of the family and the tabloid press, those certain members decided to go to bed with the devil, right? To rehabilitate their image.
“If you have to do this or want to do this, you choose to do this. Well, it’s a choice. It depends on you. But the moment that rehabilitation comes at the expense of others, me, other members of my family, that’s when I draw the line.”
Camilla was a ‘villain’ who was ‘dangerous’
The Duke of Sussex described Camilla as “dangerous” because of her need to rebuild her image after being portrayed as the “villain” in his parents’ divorce.
He echoed his mother’s words, saying on US television: “She was the third person in their marriage.”
Describing the circumstances surrounding Camilla’s relationship with her father, the Duke said: “She was the villain. She had to rehabilitate her image.
@This made her dangerous because of the connections she was building in the British press. And there was an open willingness on both sides to exchange information. With a family built on hierarchy, and with her on the way to being queen consort, there would be people or bodies left on the street because of it.
Harry broke the silence on Jeremy Clarkson’s comments
Prince Harry has broken his silence on comments made recently about his wife in The Sun by former Top Gear star Jeremy Clarkson.
Mr Clarkson wrote in The Sun that he “dreams of the day she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while crowds chant ‘Shame!’ and throw lumps of excrement at her”.
The Duke of Sussex said it was “appalling and it’s insulting and cruel to my wife, but it also encourages other people in the UK and around the world, especially men, to go and think that it’s acceptable to treat women like this way”.
Lady Hussey is not to blame
The Duke of Sussex has defended the late Queen’s former lady-in-waiting who has been accused of racism, claiming she “never meant any harm”.
Lady Hussey gave up the honorary role after asking Ngozi Fulani, director of the east London charity Sistah Space, where she was actually from during an event at Buckingham Palace.
“I am very glad that Ngozi Fulani was invited to the palace to sit down with Lady Susan Hussey and reconcile because Meghan and I love Susan Hussey. (Meghan) thinks she’s great,” Prince Harry told Bradby.
“And I also know that what she meant—she never meant anything bad.
“But the response from the British press and from people online because of the stories they wrote was appalling.”
Harry doesn’t believe the royal family is racist
The Duke of Sussex denied accusing his family of racism in the infamous Oprah Winfrey interview in 2021.
Bradby said: “In the Oprah interview you accused members of your family of racism…”
The Duke said: “No, I’m not. The British press said that… did Meghan ever mention that they were racist?”
Bradby tried to explain that Meghan told Oprah that there were comments about Archie’s skin color from the family.
The Duke of Sussex said he “had” but that “I wouldn’t [describe that as racist]as he did not live in that family’.
Harry was not invited on the plane to Balmoral when the Queen died
Prince Harry has told how he was not invited on the plane to fly to Balmoral when the late Queen died.
He said: “I asked my brother, I said, ‘What are your plans?’ How are you getting on with Kate? And then, a few hours later, all the family members who live in the Windsor and Ascot area got on a plane together, a 12-, 14-, maybe 16-seater plane.”
“Weren’t you invited on that plane?” Cooper asks.
“I was not invited,” replied the duke.
