Mild spoilers ahead for the final episode of Superman and Lois, “Forces Uncontrollable,” so read at your own risk.
The third season of Superman and Lois is finally here, and even though we’re only two episodes in so far, it’s already been an eventful one. There’s plenty of superhero action to note, but for now it’s the character drama that really heats up early on (and devastating fans in the process). One of the biggest developments on this front, of course, has to be the relationship between Chrissy Beppo and Kyle Cushing. It was a surprising turn of events to say the least, especially considering the two haven’t interacted much over the past two seasons. Now Sofia Hasmik, who plays Chrissy, is opening up about her initial reaction to the storyline.
In the season premiere, Chrissy and Kyle end up in bed together the morning after Jonathan and Jordan Kent’s 16th birthday party, where they have a brief heart-to-heart about their personal lives. The relationship is made even more awkward by the fact that Chrissy is at Kyle’s place when his ex-wife Lana Lang arrives to deliver signed divorce papers. (Lang never sees Beppo though). I had the pleasure of speaking with Sofia Hasmik about her work on Superman and Lois and during our chat we discussed her favorite character’s most recent personal escapades. The actress was honest when she recalled how she reacted and, yes, she was initially surprised, as many fans were:
It’s true that both Smallville residents have rarely crossed paths up until this point, so one can totally understand why the star would be surprised at first. However, based on additional comments she made, it sounds like it didn’t take her long to shake those initial jitters. She also weighed in on why the two probably became intimate so quickly:
Chrissy Beppo has had an interesting journey on the hit CW drama series. She was originally a recurring character, but Sofia Hasmik reached series regular status in Season 2 of Superman and Lois. With this, Chrissy became a bigger part of the narrative as she got in over her head while investigating the shady Ally Allston. Of course, this is the first time Chrissy has had a real love interest. Hasmik is eager to get involved in this new arc and what she is most excited about is the opportunity to work more with Kyle Cushing actor Eric Valdez:
This season’s second episode, “Forces Uncontrollable,” doesn’t advance this particular story too much, as Chrissy and Kyle only share one scene discussing a major murder in the city. This story will likely become more prominent as the season progresses, and I’m incredibly curious to see how others—Lana Lang in particular—react to it. Despite the tension that may arise there, however, I am sure that in the middle Superman’s conflict with Bruno Mannheim or the rise of our new Lex Luthorthis romantic subplot should bring some lightness and heart to an already entertaining show.
See Sofia Hasmik and her colleagues Superman and Lois when it airs Tuesdays at 8pm ET on The CW as part of 2023 TV Schedule. You can too watch recent episodes for free on the network’s website and stream previous seasons using HBO Max subscription.
