Eddie Snead, a psychiatric technician at Sovah Health-Danville, was honored Tuesday with the BEE Outstanding Staff Member Award.

The BEE Award is a way of thanking a Sovah Health staff member who has provided an exceptional BEE-yond experience.

Snead has worked at Sovah Health for 20 years in various areas within the hospital and has steadily grown in her career over the years.

He has been nominated five times for this award by his colleagues who credit him with excellent care for his patients.

“Eddie always goes above and beyond for her team and our patients. It helps wherever and whenever it is needed. He is always available, never complains and is a real asset to our team.”

At one point in his career, Snead was caring for a patient who came in with very worn and damaged shoes. This patient was discharged and Sneed brought the patient a pair of shoes so they could leave the facility with the essentials. This isn’t the first or last time Snead goes above and beyond for his patients and always helps people from the heart and for the right reasons.

The BEE Award was created to honor support staff members who continually go above and beyond for patients and their families. Along with the DAISY Award, which recognizes nursing staff, the BEE Award recognizes non-nursing staff members who provide outstanding teamwork.

BEE Award winners demonstrate the Petal Principles and portray excellence through expertise and compassionate care.

The Petal Principles include showing passion in the care they provide every day, connecting with patients and their support system, working as a team, always creating the best experience, showing love for their work and showing respect. Each honoree will be recognized at a public ceremony in his/her department and will receive a certificate of achievement, a plaque, a pin to wear on their badge, and refreshments to share with their colleagues.

“Eddie has worked at our hospital caring for our community for many years,” said Brian Bradley, chief nursing officer at Sovah Health-Danville. “He has been a tremendous asset to our team and goes above and beyond for every patient he meets. He leads the way to employee excellence and creates a positive work environment for his colleagues. It was an honor and well deserved to present him with our first BEE award.”
