Punjabi actress and singer Shehnaaz Gill has become a household name ever since her stint on the reality show Bigg Boss 13. Her charming personality, witty comebacks, and entertaining antics on the show won the hearts of millions of viewers across the country. However, her journey to fame was indeed a rollercoaster ride filled with unexpected turns. In fact, there was a time the Punjabi film industry totally cut her off and the makers of her Punjabi movie did not invite her to the premiere.
Shehnaaz Gill recalls being shunned by Punjabi film industry; reveals she was left out of her own film’s premiere
The 30-year-old actress herself made the above revelation during her appearance on Siddharth Kanan’s podcast. For the unversed, Shehnaaz is currently busy with the promotions of her Bollywood debut, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan. While reflecting on her journey at the podcast, Gill asserted, “I had worked in a movie as the second lead and they did not invite me for the premiere.”
She further added, “They called everyone, even the production house. It was a Punjabi film. I saw the film and while I was leaving, I saw the videos and photos from the premiere. I cried a lot that day. They called me and then they cancelled. I didn’t know, I was very upset at that time. The Punjabi industry had completely cut me off.”
For those who are unaware, Shehnaaz started her career with music videos. Later, she made her acting debut with the Punjabi film Sat Shri Akaal England. She then went on to star in a couple of films such as Kala Shah Kala, Daaka and Honsla Rakh.
Speaking about her Bollywood debut film, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, the Salman Khan starrer is slated to release on April 21. Helmed by Farhad Samji, the ensemble star cast also features Pooja Hegde, Venkatesh Daggubati, Jagapathi Babu, Bhumika Chawla, Vijender Singh, Abhimanyu Singh, Raghav Juyal, Siddharth Nigam, Jassie Gill, Palak Tiwari and Vinali Bhatnagar.
