Review by: Russell D’Silva
When season 1 of Crime in Delhi premiered on Netflix Indiathis caused much surprise and opened many days for the Indians OTT content. On the one hand, no one, not even Netflix himself imagined how big it would turn out to be and was also the country’s first ever non-documentary web series based on a brutal real-life incident that rocked the nation, besides finally giving Shefali Shah a headlining act worthy of both her talent as much as for her arresting (no pun intended) screen presence.
Now, 3 years later, most of the same case and crew are back for Delhi Crimes Season 2, this time with the burden of expectations and baggage to follow their class act. do they do Well, almost, and that’s more than enough. So, are you excited about what to watch this weekend or what to watch this week and wondering if Crime in Delhi 2 is it worth your time? Scroll down for my full Crime in delhi season 2 review…
What are you talking about
DCP Vartika Chaturvedi (Shefali Shah) and her squad are back and this time they have to deal with the ghosts of the past as a new, scarier version of the Kachcha-Banyan gang that terrorized Delhi with robberies and murders in the 1990s. is back to target the senior citizens of Delhi’s elite strata.

What’s new
Unlike Season 1, the performances take center stage this time around over the actual investigation (we’ll get to why that is later). Shefali Shah now lives and breathes Vartika Chaturvedi, switching seamlessly between caring, vulnerable and ferocious as Rasika Duggal and Rajesh Tailang paint individual portraits of what it takes to be an honest cop struggling with family life, albeit as opposite sexes. Thilothama Shome and the rest of the cast are also right on the money. Creator Richie Mehta once again weaves Delhi as a dark, brooding tapestry, well supported by Tanuj Chopra’s insightful direction and some precise camerawork and editing (it’s good to see a show ending in 5 episodes without unnecessary overtures). The class divide in Delhi is brilliantly highlighted and the modus operandi of a gang we all beard in the 90s is resurrected with a modern texture to good effect.
What is not
While season 1 was a heavy investigation until the end, season 2 needs a little saving from its great cast as the plot falls apart after the real gang is revealed. You just know how things are going to play out from here (which is why it was so smart to cut it to 5 episodes), while ironically the actual incident documented earlier in the media in the first season kept us hooked until the very end. The character arcs of the perpetrators are randomly etched (except for one that I can’t reveal here), and the investigation becomes a by-the-numbers course in the final episode. In addition, the main result had to be worked on again.
BL Judgment
Delhi Crime 2 doesn’t quite live up to the lofty heights of its first season, but that doesn’t take away from being another good investigative police procedural that lays bare the dark, seedy underbelly of Delhi and is helmed by the wonderful Shefali Shah, with Rasika Dugal and Rajesh Tailang providing adequate support. I’m going with 3.5 out of 5 stars.
