Shilpa Shetty’s sister, Shamita Shetty had made her acting debut with Aditya Chopra’s directorial, Mohabbatein, but had worked in few films since then. However, the gorgeous lady has regained the limelight after her stint in the controversial reality show, Bigg Boss OTT and again in Bigg Boss 15. During Shamita’s stay inside the BB house, she had faced many personal attacks. From being age shamed to being judged for dating once married man, Raqesh Bapat. Still, the actress had always come out strong with her unfiltered opinions and unbiased gameplay.

And the one person, who has always been the pillar of strength during her difficult phase is her dearest sister and cheerleader, Shilpa Shetty Kundra. Time and again, the sisters have proved their unbreakable bond by heaping praises and love on each other. Now, in a recent chatshow, Shamita Shetty has opened up about the darkest phase of her life when she had to go through depression and revealed how participating in Bigg Boss15 has changed her personality.

In a candid conversation with her sister, Shilpa Shetty, in her chat show, Shape Of You, Shamita Shetty shared that she was totally unaware when she was experiencing depression for the first time in her life. Revealing how it was her then-boyfriend, who had pointed out at her changed behaviour and had told her that ‘something is wrong’. Shamita can be quoted as saying:

“When I was going through that phase for the first time, I didn’t know it was depression. I couldn’t understand why am I behaving in a particular way. I was dating someone at that point, and he told me, ‘I think there’s something wrong.'”


However, the Zeher actress had eventually managed to battle her depression and had come out stronger than ever. And now, Shamita believes that as she had got past the darkest phase of her life, she can overcome anything that may come her way. She shared that due to her past experiences of surviving tough times, she could manage to stay inside the Bigg Boss 15 house and had ended up being one of the finalists of the Salman Khan hosted show. In her words:

“I don’t know what I was thinking when I decided to go to the Bigg Boss house. I had extreme highs and lows in that house. I don’t know how I managed to put myself together and move on. It is because of what I have been through in my past. I have been through depression, and that is what made me stronger. It gives me the courage to take on challenges. I feel since I have overcome that, I can overcome anything.”

It is not the first time that the actress has addressed depression and mental health. Over the past few years and especially after the unfortunate event of Sushant Singh Rajput’s mysterious death case, we have seen the actress openly spreading awareness about mental wellness. In the same interview, Shamita said that people need to accept that they are going through depression, and it becomes crucial for their families to support the person. She mentioned her continuous efforts to not go back into that phase again. She shared:

“I have to be aware every day. I look for signs. I make conscious efforts to not do things that could take me back into that phase. So that awareness helps me.”


As Shamita opened up about her mental state in front of the public, her doting sister, Shilpa Shetty ended up saying that she was very proud of her. She said:

“I am proud of you.”


On the work front, Shamita Shetty was the third runner-up of Bigg Boss 15
