1. Bachchhan Paandey

An official remake of the Tamil film Jigarthanda, Akshay Kumar and Kriti Sanon starrer Bachchhan Paandey struggled to excel at the box office due to filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files. While the latter tasted success in the domestic and international circuit, Kumar’s action-comedy drama helmed by Farhad Samji failed to lure the audience to cinema halls. Made on a budget of Rs 180 crore, Bachchhan Paandey had a difficult time earning Rs 68 crore mark at the box office, according to India Today.

Sharing his views on The Kashmir Files impacting the box office collection of Bachchhan Paandey, Kumar said, “Yes, I would have liked Bachchhan Paandey to be better than what it is doing but not once do I blame the Kashmir files for it. That film is a storm and we came in the eye of it.

2. Raksha Bandhan

Akshay Kumar’s poor run at the box office continued with family entertainer Raksha Bandhan. The Aanand L Rai directorial which was made on a massive budget of Rs 100 crore, ended up collecting approximately Rs 45 crore at the box office, according to India Today. While a total of 1000 shows of Raksha Bandhan were canceled, director Rai opened up about the film’s failure in a conversation with Hindustan Times. He said, “I was wrong in differentiating between the audiences. I should focus more on the story rather than selecting the audience whom I want to cater to.

3. Ram Setu

Despite multiple releases, 2022 turned out to be a difficult year for Selfiee star Akshay Kumar in terms of box office collection. After Raksha Bandhan and Bachchhan Paandey, the 55-year-old actor’s ambitious project Ram Setu too had a tough run at the box office. Made on a budget of approximately Rs 85 crore, the adventure drama co-starring Nushrratt Bharuccha and Jacqueline Fernandez failed to surpass the Rs 100 crore mark despite emerging as Kumar’s highest opening movie of 2022. The adventure drama ended up collecting approximately Rs 75 crore at the box office, according to India Today.

4. Samrat Prithviraj

Made on a huge budget of Rs 300 crore, YRF-backed Samrat Prithviraj, was one of the most-awaited movies of 2022. However, the Akshay Kumar starrer turned out to be the biggest disappointment of 2022 as it collected approximately Rs 70 crore at the box office, according to India Today. The historical drama helmed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi marked the Bollywood debut of Miss World 2017 pageant winner Manushi Chhillar.

5. Bell Bottom

Akshay Kumar joined forces with Vaani Kapoor, Huma Qureshi, Lara Dutta and others for this engaging drama that is based on ’80s plane hijacks. Made on a budget of Rs 70 crore, the espionage thriller, Bell Bottom, starring Kumar as a RAW agent ended up doing business of approximately Rs 30 crore at the box office, according to India Today.

6. Selfiee

After a poor year in terms of box office collection, Akshay Kumar would’ve hoped Selfiee, co-starring Emraan Hashmi, to taste success at the box office. However, the much-awaited movie of 2023 helmed by Raj Mehta, failed to live up to its expectations.

According to News18, Kumar, in a recent conversation with Aaj Tak, blamed himself for the failure of Selfiee. “When your films flop in a row, it is an alarm for you that it is time for you to change. Do not blame the audience or anyone else. It is my fault, 100%,” Kumar said.
