Ekta Kapoor has faced legal trouble over her erotic web series XXX, which airs on her OTT platform ALTBalaji. The Supreme Court has now condemned TV Czarina, saying that it is polluting the minds of the young generation by showing objectionable content in its web series.
“Something has to be done. You are polluting the minds of the young generation of this country…,” said a bench of Justices Ajay Rastogi and CT Ravikumar. The bench added that OTT (Over the Top) content is available to all and questioned her advice on “what kind of choice are you giving people?”
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, who is representing Ekta Kapoor, said a similar plea was made before the Patna High Court and the high court had earlier granted protection to Kapoor. He then added that adult content in web series on the OTT platform is subscription based.
The bench said it did not appreciate the fact that every time a petition was moved before the apex court, it added that costs would be imposed for filing such a petition. He asked Rohatgi to convey this to his client and stressed that the apex court works for those who have no voice.
The Supreme Court was hearing Kapoor’s appeal against the arrest warrants issued against her for allegedly insulting soldiers and hurting the sentiments of their families in the web series on her OTT platform ALTBalaji. The court observed, “We have seen the order and have our reservations.”
The Supreme Court also kept the matter pending before it and recommended that a local lawyer be engaged to inform about the status of the hearing in the high court.
The Begusarai High Court in Bihar passed the order on a 2020 complaint filed by Shambhu Kumar, an ex-serviceman, who alleged that XXX (Season-2) included several objectionable scenes involving the soldier’s wife.
