Director Gunasekar has been working on the Shaakunthalam story for a long time. When he was done with the story and script, his daughter Neelima Guna could not see anyone else but Samantha as Shaakuntala and so the actress stepped in.
The 3D trailer of the film was grandly launched today and it has raised all expectations. Shaakunthalam looks beautiful and so does Samantha when viewed with the visual effects. Speaking at the event, director Gunasekar praised Samantha.
He said, “This is Samantha’s Shakunthalam. She gave life to the role of Shakuntala and reincarnated herself in it. When the movie releases, you will see her best performance from the first frame to the last. I’m glad I worked with her. I really look forward to hearing what you have to say on April 14th. This story is written based on the roles of Dushyanta and Shaakuntala from the Abhignana Shaakuntalam chapter of the Mahabharata written by Abhignana Sakunthalam. To present it to you visually, we made small improvisations. But trust me… it turned out absolutely fine.”
Gunasekar and his daughter Neelima praised Samantha for the efforts she has made. During the film’s post-production, the actress suffered from myositis, but still managed to keep her word of commitment to the deadlines.
Dev Mohan has teamed up with Samantha for this film which even has Allu Arha playing their on-screen son. Shaakunthalam has Manchu Mohan Babu, Gauthami, Ananya Nagalla, Sachin Khedekar and many other actors playing pivotal roles.
