By Latha Srinivasan: RRR director SS Rajamouli is in the US for the Oscars and ahead of the event he has been giving interviews to the American media. In a recent interview with an international publication, the Baahubali director spoke about how the Ramayana and Mahabharata were major influxes on his life and they had an impact on his films as well.

SS Rajamouli stated in an interview with The New Yorker, “I’ve read these stories since I was a child, and in the beginning they were just nice, engaging stories. As I started growing up, I read different versions of the text, and the story started evolving into something much bigger for me. I could see the characters, the conflicts within the characters, and their motivating emotions. And I started understanding and loving these texts even more. Anything that comes out of me is somehow influenced by these texts. Those texts are like oceans: every time I visit them, I find something new.”

Naatu Naatu from RRR is up for Best Original Song at the OScars this year and the entire RRR team is there in LA to attend the event. Naatu Naatu will be performed live on stage by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 12. MM Keeravaani, Kala Bhairava’s father, is the music director of the film and he will also be present during the performance.

Naatu Naatu from RRR has become an international sensation now, with even South Koreans dancing to it. The song won the Golden Globes award for Best Original Song in January, followed by the Critics’ Choice Awards and the Hollywood Critics Association Awards.
