A restraining order was filed against Ricky Martin in accordance with Puerto Rico’s domestic violence law, although the singer has denied the allegations.
“The allegations against Ricky Martin that led to the protective order are completely false and fabricated,” said a rep for the 50-year-old “Living La Vida Loca” artist. The Hollywood Reporter in a statement on Saturday, July 2. “We are very confident that when the true facts of this matter come out, our client Ricky Martin will be fully vindicated.”
A local judge issued the protective order on Friday, July 1, according to a report Saturday by The Associated Press. The AP noted that the judge issued the request before authorities tried to serve Martin — real name Enrique Martin Morales — with the warrant at his residence in Dorado, Puerto Rico.
“Police have so far been unable to locate him,” the police spokesman said Axel Valencia told the outlet on Saturday, noting that according to the warrant, Martin cannot contact the complainant. He also explained that the warrant did not contact the police and went through the court.
The request came after a complaint was filed against the “Falta Amor” performer under the territory’s Act 54, which is known as the Domestic Violence Prevention and Intervention Act. The bill was passed in 1989 to deal with domestic violence situations and under its provisions the name of the alleged victim is not released.
the speaker, a local Puerto Rican newspaper, reported that Martin and the alleged victim had been dating for seven months before breaking up earlier this year, which the former Menudo member did not accept. “The petitioner fears for his safety,” the newspaper quoted the order as saying.
Martin publicly came out as gay in March 2010 before eventually marrying his longtime partner Jwan Yosef in 2017
“It felt amazing [to publicly come out],” the former Voice Australia the mentor told radio station KIIS FM in May 2014. “I wish I could go out again because that moment felt very blissful. It’s really amazing and then when it happens you realize that all your fears were in your head. The amount of support I received… from the media, [and] obviously my fans and my family were amazing. Unfortunately, society simply leads us to believe that our feelings are evil.”
While Martin and the conceptual artist, 37, have yet to publicly announce the status of their relationship amid Friday’s allegations, the couple have four children: twins Valentino and Matteo, both 14, Lucia, 3, and Ren, 2.
“My husband Juan, I love you, my beautiful twins, Valentino and Matteo, they’re here too, I love you with all my heart,” the musician previously said of his family during a speech at the Human Rights Campaign’s National Dinner in November 2019, before the birth of son Ren. “You are my strength, you inspire me every day, you motivate me to keep doing what I do and you are great kids. You are amazing. I love you. … I love big families.”
