Jaipur: It’s an unique Ram Charita Natya to be staged at the Jawahar Kala Kendra in Jaipur for the first time.
First, no celebrities nor any veterans in this field are participating in this five-day long play. The cast, musicians, dancers and singers of this play are all new bloods.
The organizers have selected 133 artists out of more than 500 people who took part in the auditions. All, in the age group of 19 to 27 year, are from 14 cities of Rajasthan.
Second, the script of this play has been adopted from four different versions of Ramayanas – the Valmiki’s Ramayana, Tulsi Das’ Ramcharit Manas, Radheshyam’s Ramayana and Ramayana of famous poet Mehoji Godara of Rajasthan. Written and directed by famous theatrical personality Ashok Rahi, this play has a duration of 10 to 12 hours. JKK would host the entire play in five days from October 1, for two hours on each day.
“Well, in this play I have not portrayed Ram as a God or as any Avatar. In this play I tried to recreate the human elements of the King of Ayodha. Apart from the dialogues, the script contains some music and even a few dances. It’s a fare opportunity to these new phases irrespective of their fields,” Rahi, who is the president of People Media and Theatre, told TOI.
JKK officials said, it would be a unique confluence of acting, song-music and dance. “Our only appeal to all the people of the state is to reach the program and make it successful. This will encourage these young artistes.” said, Anuradha Gogia, the Additional Director General, Jawahar Kala Kendra.
Post audition, for the last six months, these artistes are doing their rehearsal everyday at the JKK to make this event a great success.
“We could have easily hired a professional theatrical group from outside the state. But this event has a different purpose – to promote the folk culture and young folk artistes of the state,” added Rahi.
In all, it’s an event of the people of the people of Rajasthan, by the people of Rajasthan, for the people of Rajasthan.
