SS Rajamouli’s RRR, which features Jr NTR and Ram Charan in the lead roles, is doing well in theaters in Japan. However, the film won several awards at international film festivals and is poised for Oscar nominations. RRR has reportedly earned over 20 crore rupees in Japan and remains the highest grossing film in many locations. But recently, Rajinikanth’s Muthu has broken all records and is the highest grosser in Japan. Yes, you read that right.
Muthu maintains top position in Japan beating SS Rajamouli’s RRR. Talking about RRR, the film was presented in 14 categories at Oscars 2023. RRR fans are expecting the film to get two or three nominations at the Academy Awards which will be held on March 12, 2023. The plot of RRR revolves around two Telugu freedom fighters , Alluri Seetharama Raju and Komaram Bheem who fought hard for justice against the British rule.
Muthu was released two decades ago and the film is still winning hearts globally. The film is doing extremely well and has reportedly earned Rs. 23.50 crore in Japan. Well, RRR is expected to cross the numbers and set new records. SS Rajamouli’s RRR came out on top in Japan after Baahubali: The Conclusion for the second year in a row. The latter part of the film ran for 100 days in theaters in Japan and collected over ¥300 million. But the film failed to surpass the collections of Rajinikanth’s Muthu which is directed by KS Ravikumar with 400 million Japanese yen.
On the work front, SS Rajamouli recently confirmed that his veteran writer father KV Vijayendra Prasad is working on the script of RRR 2. SS Rajamouli has even been signed by US talent agency Creative Artists Agency for the film’s Oscar campaign. RRR has raised a total of Rs. 1000 crore worldwide.
