Queen Consort Camilla (opens in new tab) has filmed a touching tribute to her late mother-in-law, the queen (opens in new tab)which will be televised tonight (Sunday September 18).
Queen Camilla took part in a very personal interview which is due to be broadcast tonight, Sunday 18 September, just before the nation’s minute of silence.
In extracts that have already been published, The Queen Consort clearly remembers the Queen with great affection, citing her mothers-in-law (opens in new tab) “beautiful blue eyes” and saying: “I will always remember her smile.”
Sky News reports that in the interview, Camilla detailed how the Queen has built her own role over many years in the “difficult position” of being a “lone woman” in a male-dominated world.
“I can’t remember anyone but the Queen being there,” says the Queen.
Camilla speaks with obvious love for the Queen and her grief at her death is clear. She says: “She has been a part of our lives forever. I am now 75 years old and cannot remember anyone but the Queen being there.
“It must have been so hard for her to be a single woman. There were no female prime ministers or presidents. She was the only one, so I think she carved out the role for herself.”
“She has those beautiful blue eyes that, when she smiles, light up her whole face. I will always remember her smile. That smile is unforgettable.”
The tribute will be broadcast in full on the BBC shortly before the national minute’s silence at 8pm.
In February 2022, the Queen said it was her “sincere wish” that the then Duchess of Cornwall would be known as “Queen Consort” when the time came (opens in new tab)urging the public to support both her daughter-in-law and Charles when he became king.
When fully converted, Camilla is now called Her Majesty Queen Consort Camilla and is expected to be crowned Queen at the King’s Coronation.
