Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s Pathaan was mired in controversy over the actress’ saffron bikini in the Besharam Rang song. Many Hindustva activists across the country have called for a boycott, saying it hurts their religious sentiments. Veteran actress Asha Paresh has now reacted to the controversy saying that people are becoming too closed minded.
When Asha was asked about the social media negativity against the film industry, the veteran actress referred to people pinning Deepika on the song and said it was completely wrong. She added that the film is a film that aims to entertain people. If an actress wears an orange bikini or a specific name is mentioned, then banning the film on that basis does not look good.
She believes that the film industry is dying because films do not work and if people continue to boycott films on such topics then films will not be made in the future. She thinks our brains are dying and people are becoming more narrow-minded, which is worrying.
“Bikini per bawaal nahi tha, yahan toh orange rang ki bikini ko lehkar sawaal uth rahe hai. Mujhe lagta hai ki hamara dimaag ab bandh hota ja raha hai. Ke liye soft target raha hai,” Asha told Aaj Tak.
The controversy surrounding Pathaan was triggered after Minister of State for Home Narottam Mishra objected to a song from the film titled Besharam Rang, claiming it hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindu community. Mishra said that the way the colors saffron and green were used in the costumes used in the song was unacceptable.
Assembly Speaker Girish Gautam went a step further and asked Shah Rukh Khan if he would dare to watch his film Pathaan along with his daughter. After the release of the song Besharam Rang, #BoycottPathaan started trending on Twitter as many objected to Deepika wearing a saffron bikini in the song.
