I think it’s really, really important to have that integration, and it also has proven results for people who live in these mixed communities. Putting $500 million into a tower for 900 — lottery units we’re not even sure how deep [area median income] will be, to me, could be a decision that does not reflect equity in where we put resources to build affordable housing.

Mara Gay: Thank you. Let’s talk a little about your path to victory. It’s obviously an extremely busy race. The two part question was what is your path to victory? And the second part of the question is what will be the determining factor in who will emerge victorious in this primary? Is it a union? Is it a ground game? How much money do you have in the bank? What is?

I think to win this race – and I feel like I’m in a unique position to do it because of my roots, because of the connections that I have and that people know me in the community and know me in this area – to win, you certainly have to be funded and you need a good ground game. So you need a combination.

For me, having the validators that I have is the coalition that I’m building in terms of backers, including the early endorsement from Nydia Velasquez, was really important. Over 45 percent of her old neighborhood is in the new NY10. And people know her. She is a fighter. And so that was critical.

Having good support, whether it’s council members, workers, I think just for me, I have community leaders, PTA presidents, disability advocates and NYCHA tenant association leaders, district leaders, people by the state committees. I think this group of people — who understand the issues, who know who I am, who know my drive — is what’s going to get me to the finish line. In the end, I’d say it has a fully funded campaign and a good game on the ground. And I think I’m the only candidate who has both.

Mara Gay: Thank you.

Patrick Healy: You live in Manhattan, but the majority of voters in the borough live in Brooklyn. Why are you the best person to represent this district?
