Mani Ratnam’s epic saga has become the first Tamil film to collect over Rs 200 crore at the Tamil Nadu box office. As per an update on trade anaylst Ramesh Bala’s Twitter account, PS 1 has joined the exclusive Rs 200 crore gross club in Tamil Nadu.

The film marks the first of two cinematic parts based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel titled Ponniyin Selvan. The film brings together AR Rahman and Mani Ratnam and has cinematography by Ravi Varman, editing by A. Sreekar Prasad, and production design by Thota Tharani. The film has received rave reviews from celebrities and viewers alike. Fans have been raving about the film’s grandeur, storyline and the performances of its star cast among other things. Among the film fraternity members who have whole-heartedly heaped praise on the film, megastar Rajinikanth has said that it marks the golden era of Tamil cinema. Rajinikanth had also revealed how he wanted to be a part of PS1.
