- “Mx. Nomer” by Barbara Perez Marquez and Dominic Bustamante – Costa Rican-American Naomi has never felt like they knew where they belonged, caught between their Costa Rican roots and American life. At a street festival where Naomi is embarrassed by family members and friends, they retreat into a surreal world inside their mind, confronting some old magic they’re not quite ready for.
- “The Remarkable Helen Huynh” by Cherish Chen and Ashley Liu – Helen Huynh is constantly on the go, trying to make it in New York City as a fashion photographer, until one night at a gala when she encounters a piece of the magical Jadeite stone. Newly blessed with the power of invisibility, Helen slows down to observe the world around her—and when she does, she discovers that a building in her Chinatown neighborhood is being threatened by an unscrupulous developer and a ravenous mythical creature.
- “Casa de Matar” by Henry Barajas and Louie Chin – Siblings Yasmine and Ricardo once promised each other they’d make their dreams of a better home a reality. Now, Yasmine is launching a new culturally inspired fashion line at CDMX, and the Slays have front row seats! But the runway is shocked by a deadly surprise, and Ricardo’s ambition plunges the siblings’ hopes – and the House of Slay – into a dark dimension.
- “Nephrite Horrors” by Deron Bennett and Lynne Yoshii – When seeds of fear and hate stand in the way of celebrating diversity, Tariq must stand up to prejudice in unlikely places. Tariq discovers the commonalities people share can be threatened by forces that benefit from chaos – forces we previously thought were long gone.
House of Slay‘s Incredible Creative Lineup
“The creative lineup in Season 2 is just astounding, leading off with Amy Chu’s and Fabian LeLay’s story on an Old Hollywood theme, adding an air of mystery and intrigue as the team learns more about the cultural origins of their abilities,” Lim said. “It keeps going from there, and I’m excited to see what readers think of the new, expansive direction. Our mission is for people to see that everyone can become their own superhero, and this new slate of stories offers so many new doorways into that vision.”
Gurung added, “In Season 2 of House of Slay, the team is off on a bunch of new adventures, exploring what happens when you use your unique abilities to show up and stand up for what you believe in. You don’t have to have superpowers to change the world, you just need a clear vision and persistence and spirit–though the superpowers help! The stories in this season highlight that as the team is challenged in new ways and learns that not every fight is a clear contrast between right and wrong. Everyone this season nailed the look and feel of the House of Slay ethos of visibility and inner strength. The call-backs to Season 1 are great for anyone who has been with us from the beginning, and even if it’s your first time, you’ll be delighted by some of the unexpected twists. And the killer looks!”
“At EEP Universe, we want fandoms typically left out of heroic fiction to see themselves in the story, and I’m so happy with how well we hit that note in this season of House of Slay,” said EEP Universe CEO Heather Einhorn. “The house is now even bigger and more expansive than ever; we’re traveling all over the world to meet new heroes and villains, making the comic even more inclusive. This is the biggest and most talented creative team we’ve worked with yet and they took it to surprising new places. Amy Chu kicks off the season with an awesome story with art by Fabian LeLay, and Kevin Wada is returning with absolutely incredible covers. If you’re new to this world, it’s a great time to join the House of Slay!”
House of Slay‘s second season debuts on Nov. 1. The first season is also currently available to read on Tapas and WEBTOON.
